Job overview

We’re building a national team of secondary Regional Education Directors to accelerate our progress towards sustainable excellence across our network of schools.

At AET, our mission is simple. We exist to provide an excellent education to every child, in every classroom, every day.

AET is one of the country’s largest networks of schools. Scale, opportunity, expertise and hard-wired collaboration accelerate improvement and enhance performance. But we never forget that fundamentally each of our schools is a community school and that sense of localism is really important to us. Through our regional structure we are able to ensure that we know each of our schools in depth and our principals feel supported and able to contribute to the whole network. We don’t subscribe to a “cookie-cutter” model of education, instead we seek to embrace, and balance, our schools’ distinctive characteristics with meaningful alignment which supports powerful collaboration.

We are launching a national search for some of the very best education leaders in the country. We need influential leaders with a recent track record of impact as a Principal or Executive Leader to help us deliver the ambitious goals we have set ourselves. You will bring a detailed understanding of how to support schools to drive lasting improvement at pace. You’ll also have a natural talent for inspiring leaders to give their absolute best alongside a deep evidence-led knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy. Crucially, you’ll share our unwavering commitment to ensuring that all children and young people, regardless of background or ability, have access to an excellent education.

It's an exciting time to join us. We are committed to building sustainable excellence at scale; we are definitely on an upward trajectory, but our ambitions for the future mean there is still much more to do. Over the last year we have successfully piloted our regional structure and are now building out the complete team. Our Regional Education Directors will lead a group of schools across one of the following regions:

  • North
  • Essex
  • South-West
  • London
  • Midlands

In post, you will be an integral part of a dynamic new team with nationwide reach. Locally, you will build a strong regional team of principals working together to improve standards and drive transformative change. You will contribute to securing sustainable excellence through innovative policy and practice, across a national trust.

The RED role is an ideal opportunity for anyone who holds ambitions to lead a significant Trust in the future. You will be exposed to the education sector at system level and to understand the challenges and opportunities of leading at scale. We can offer you the opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest minds in education – within a supportive and ambitious organisation.

If you are a dedicated and driven leader, interested in scale, curious to learn how to build sustainable excellence, excited by the combination of unparalleled challenge and intensive opportunities for personal and professional development then get in touch.

We are committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate will be required for all posts. This post will be subject to enhanced checks as part of our Prevent Duty.

AET embraces diversity and promotes equality of opportunity. Job share, part time and flexible working opportunities will be considered.

We are a Disability Confident Employer and there is a guaranteed interview scheme for candidates with disabilities who meet the minimum selection criteria

AET was established in 2008 and is now a national network of 57 primary, secondary and special academies. We are proud of our diverse and inclusive network of schools which span nearly every region in the country.

This is a hugely exciting time to be joining the organisation, and as we pivot from being in turnaround mode to becoming a high performance organisation on the pathway to sustainable excellence. This will see us building our in-house education improvement capacity and expertise, making sure that our schools have all the support they need to deliver an excellent education for every child, every day.

Our people are our single greatest resource and we want to make sure we are creating the optimum environment and conditions so that everyone in AET can do their very best work. We will only deliver on our promise of excellence for all of our children if we attract, develop and retain the very best talent in the country and surround them with exceptional development throughout their careers.

We want people on our team who are excited by scale and the prospect of having a deep and lasting impact on the lives of tens of thousands of children. We also want people who are intellectually rigorous, stay curious, and generous enough to be committed to the messy challenge of collaboration.

AET has an exciting future ahead and by joining us on this journey, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to make a lasting and meaningful impact on the children and young people in our schools.
