Job overview

In fulfilling the requirements of the post, the higher education adviser will demonstrate essential professional characteristics, and in particular will:

 Inspire trust and confidence in school leaders, university admissions tutors, students, colleagues, parents and the wider Nord Anglia Education community;

 Engage and motivate school-based staff and students;

 Continually strive to provide the best HE outcomes possible for all our students;

 Build relationships with Universities, Colleges and Employers;

 Contribute to school improvement / development planning and promote the learning priorities of school development plans;

 Promote the wider aspirations and values of the schools.

STRATEGY:


To lead the entire strategy for higher education and careers guidance and counselling across the China Bilingual schools network, including:


 Developing and promoting the curriculum (throughout a students’ school experience) and strategy for careers and university counselling in all schools; 

 Establishing and nurturing mutually beneficial relationships with university admission officers in the US, UK, Canada and other international colleges and universities on behalf of the schools and the students;  

 Visiting college and university campuses regularly to establish and maintain university relationships;  

 Facilitating virtual or actual college seminar sessions and workshops (i.e. college personal statement workshops, interview workshops, ACT prep courses, college visit field trips, etc.)

 Monitoring and evaluating the quality of provision and maintaining regional data records in line with the Nord Anglia Education Quality Assurance framework;

 Leading professional development for counsellors across the network;

 Participating in the design and implementation of guidance counselling for NAE globally;

 Inputting personally into the process of counselling students using the higher-level expertise expected from the postholder;

 Working with colleagues in Admissions and Marketing to maintain a strong and clear understanding of the guidance offer across all our schools, including an up-to-date and compelling website presence.


REGIONAL ACTIVITIES:

 Leading the organisation and delivery regional events e.g. university fairs, as appropriate;

 Helping to develop all aspects of NAE alumni network provision for the region;

 Enabling coordination of city-based activities in cities with more than one NAE school.


LEADING AND SUPPORTING SCHOOL TEAMS

The regional lead will also provide training, advice and guidance to school counsellors on all of the following:

Advising and Supporting Students

 Holding one-to-interviews, including personally if necessary and whilst developing expertise across our counselling team, with students in order to advise and guide them on their Higher Education and career options:

 Advising and guiding students on writing the most effective Personal Statements/Letters of Intent/College Essays;

 Completing university references;

 Guiding students towards appropriate resources ; to carry out effective research;

 Maintaining high levels of expectation;

 Using technology to enhance learning opportunities within the guidance area.

Tracking, Assessment, Recording, Reporting


 Monitoring and recording students’ university applications to ensure they remain on track;

 Tracking destinations post school graduation and assisting in building the alumni database:

 Reporting on progress to appropriate stakeholders;

 Assisting in the preparation of transcripts and other documentation to support applications.
