Job overview

We are always searching for high-quality governors to join us across Leigh Academies Trust within our primary, secondary and SEN academies. Being a governor is a tremendously valuable and rewarding role. We encourage our governors to become involved in the wider life of our academies and to challenge and support our academies to reach new heights each year.

The opportunity to give back to the community through volunteering as a governor is a privilege and we are looking for high-calibre, motivated and dynamic new governors from a diverse range of backgrounds, skills and experiences to register their interest today!

Academy Board Governors are required, through the Chair of the Academy Board, to work with the Principal(s), senior leadership team(s) and other governors to drive the strategic development of each academy and raise standards of achievement for all pupils. Governors will also shape and champion the vision, ethos and culture of the academy. Our governors are expected to make several visits to their academies during each academic year, enabling them to understand and monitor the academies’ work and progress. Following their visits, reports can be submitted for consideration by the relevant Academy Board so that important lessons can be learned and outstanding issues addressed.

All we require at this stage is for you to fill in a registration of interest application so that we can get a full understanding of your experience and why you feel you would make a great governor. Our team will then make contact with you further to you registering your details to discuss what we have to offer, current opportunities across our academies or those that may be available in due course.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask our committed and knowledgeable Talent Team; 01634 412 263 / talent@latrust.org.uk.

The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training organisations, a large teaching school hub and is an accredited apprenticeship provider. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.

This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

About Leigh Academies Trust

Leigh Academies Trust is one of the country’s largest and most-established multi-academy trusts operating across Kent, Medway and South East London. It contains primary, secondary and special academies and is highly inclusive and successful. Our mission is to deliver “education for a better world” by ensuring that young people in our academies have an excellent start in life regardless of their background or ability.

We are a non-profit making charitable company, based in Strood, Medway. The Trust exists to support and assist schools to build upon their existing strengths and to help them achieve rapid educational transformation. It has significant experience in running schools, and today includes both sponsored academies and schools which have chosen to convert to academy status.

The Trust was formed in 2008 with the linking of the Leigh Technology Academy and Longfield Academy under one governing body. Today, we encompass more than 20,000 students between the ages of 2 months and 19 in over 30 primary, secondary and special academies including one all-through academy and one grammar school.

In addition to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all of our children, aged from 2 months to 19 years, and their families, we are proud to provide many opportunities for lifelong learning.  These are delivered through the organisations under our umbrella: Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, LAT Apprenticeships and Kent and Medway Training (KMT), which delivers routes into teaching. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.
