Job overview

Bryanston currently has an exciting opportunity for a passionate graduate to assist in the Business and Economics Department, initially for one year.

This role would ideally suit a Business or Economics graduate interested in exploring the teaching profession and gaining experience in the thriving Business and Economics Department of a busy co-ed boarding school.

The Business and Economics department is lively, highly committed and flourishing in their pupil recruitment. It has modern teaching facilities in a spacious and attractive building (‘Bramall’) and a room containing a Harkness table is its hub. There is a weekly department meeting for discussion of all teaching-related matters and many pupils make university applications for Business, Economics and related disciplines.

Bryanston is a stimulating environment in which to work: there is much scope for developing interests and skills in both Business, Economics and extra-curricular areas. The School follows a particular work ethos, designed to foster pupils’ personal development and independent study skills, known as the ‘Bryanston Method’.

There is a vibrant community of staff living on site, many of whom also undertake residential boarding house duties with accommodation provided. Full induction and support will be available, and although this is an appointment for one academic year in the first instance, there may be an opportunity for the right candidate to have their employment extended as part of our in-post PGCE teacher training programme, in due course.

Bryanston offers a competitive package including free accommodation, utilities, meals and gym membership in a fantastic working environment.

Closing date: Sunday 4th June 2023

Bryanston is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

About Bryanston School

Bryanston is an independent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, set in a beautiful 400-acre site near Blandford Forum in Dorset. It includes Bryanston Prep School, a co-educational day and boarding prep school in the neighbouring village of Durweston.

Founded in 1928, the school aims above all to develop the all-round talents of individual pupils. A broad, flexible academic and extra-curricular programme is offered and each pupil benefits from considerable one-to-one help and guidance from a personal tutor, subject teachers and housemaster/housemistress. Bryanston aims to combine the best of the new and the old, as befits the school motto et nova et vetera.
