Job overview

Resident Sports Graduate Assistant

Fixed term contract: October 2022 to July 2023

Located in Farnham Royal, South Buckinghamshire

Caldicott is one of the country’s most prestigious Independent Boarding and Day Preparatory Schools for Boys.  We are a flourishing school with around 250 boys from 7 to 13 years old, with all boys boarding in the final two years. We deliver a first-class education and a rich variety of music, drama, arts, sporting provision and extracurricular opportunities in a friendly and supportive working environment.  The school is only twenty miles from central London in a beautiful location.

Known for our extensive sporting provision we have pitches across 40 acres of grounds, boys play up to 22 fixtures, twice a week, with internal matches and training sessions in between.  As well as our three core sports of Rugby, Football and Cricket, we offer a wide range of additional sports including basketball, judo, cross country, swimming, archery, kayaking and skiing.

We have a great opportunity for a Resident Sports Graduate Assistant to start in September 2022, for the academic year 2022 - 2023.  The role is intended to suit recent graduates who have an interest in pursuing a career in education or sports coaching: it is an ideal opportunity to assess whether a career in these fields is right for you. It will provide an all-encompassing experience of school life, working and living in the school alongside the other sports graduates and Gap Year Placement students.  The work experience will be hugely varied, with opportunities to coach sport, support classroom and a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

The role pays a basic salary pro-rated for the duration of the contract, plus:

• Free on-site accommodation

• The provision of all meals during term time

• Use of school facilities, including a swimming pool and squash courts

Exceptional candidates may subsequently be offered support to qualify as a teacher where we have a need in their subject specialism.

Caldicott is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.  The successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Caldicott is a thriving day and boarding country prep school for boys aged 7 – 13 in South Buckinghamshire. Situated in 40 acres of magnificent grounds, we are just 15 miles from Heathrow Airport and 30 minutes from West London. We pride ourselves on our warm community where our pupils are happy and feel valued.

The success of Caldicott in recent years has led some to describe the school as amongst the country’s top prep schools, yet our approach to the education we provide stems from an ethos fostered by our founder, Mr J Heald Jenkins. He believed that decency, tolerance and humanity would enable each boy to ‘shine their light on the world’.

The main point of entry into Caldicott is in Year 3 and Year 4, although some boys join later. All boys board in Year 7 and Year 8 with the option to flexi/occasional board between Year 3 - Year 6.

Most boys leave at 13 to the finest independent senior schools with outstanding grades and routinely succeed in scholarship applications including academic, sport, music, art, drama and ‘all-rounder’ awards. Further details regarding future schools and scholarship success following Caldicott can be found here...

Caldicott is committed to an education that has the wellbeing of each boy at its heart; to develop individuals who thrive and flourish in the fullest sense. We aim to equip our children to be happy and confident, form lasting relationships with others and tackle each challenge with grit and good humour. Our community is not only warm and welcoming from the staff and pupil body, but also our parents form the Friends of Caldicott who bring the whole community together with fantastic events throughout the year.
