Job overview

Work experience opportunity for School Leavers, Undergraduates and Graduates

Term time only

Godstowe seeks to appoint enthusiastic and efficient Assistants to join the boarding staff team. Godstowe has a vibrant boarding community of over 100 girls in three boarding houses. The girls are aged between 7 to 13 years. Most of them board full-time, going home only at Exeat weekends and during School holidays. We also have part-time and ad-hoc boarders enjoying life in School outside the classroom. The girls are from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, reflecting the School’s international outlook and spirit.

These are term-time only but full-time roles, with some weekend and evening work included in the weekly rota. Typically, boarding house staff have plenty of free time during the School day, enabling many of our staff to pursue further studies. Holidays are generous and as part of the remuneration, we offer single room accommodation in the Boarding House, some with en-suite facilities, and use of the Boarding House kitchen. All residential staff enjoy free meals during term-time. Salary is paid monthly.

The role presents an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to immerse herself in the environment of an outstanding educational institution. Although the position is initially fixed term for a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year (at the candidate’s choice), the School will consider extending the arrangement for the right candidate.

Candidates must have a good general standard of education (A-level or equivalent). We would also welcome Graduates or Undergraduates seeking work experience or a work placement. If you have a professional outlook, and a can-do attitude coupled with a good sense of humour, as well as a caring and supportive personality, we would welcome your application.

Previous experience of having looked after children will be an advantage. Full training will be given in all aspects of the safeguarding of children, health & safety and our I.T. systems.

To apply for the position, please follow the process outlined below. There is no closing date for applications for the position.

Something Special is happening at Godstowe

Godstowe was founded by two strong, progressive women, originally in fact as a school whose purpose would be to prepare girls for the move down the hill to Wycombe Abbey School. Their vision was for an innovative, academic and broad education for girls and, without a doubt, this continues to live on in today’s school.

Our ethos is simple. All we want is for our girls and boys to be Confident, Happy and Successful. Indeed, if the first two are true, the third will almost certainly follow. Success is defined in many ways, and we mean successful in the broadest sense: successfully kind, successfully courteous as well as successful in achieving a wide range of goals. We keep our pupils busy and engaged, we entertain and intrigue them, encourage them, and excite them. Happy children are easy to teach.

With outstanding, highly qualified teaching staff as well as a strong and experienced pastoral team, excellent facilities, wonderful surroundings, a non-selective intake policy and a more positive, exuberant and industrious atmosphere than you will find in other schools, it is likely that most of our children will be happy to learn, happy to stretch themselves, happy to support each other, and happy to do whatever they can to take an active part in their own education. Why push children through the curriculum when they can be inspired to make their own journey, choose their own routes and arrive at their destination under their own steam?

Our pupils love their time at school. It never ceases to amaze me just how much highly motivated and enthusiastic people can willingly contribute, and we don’t just mean the girls and boys, we mean the staff and the parents too! Godstowe is alive with opportunity. Remember, to learn a lesson you need to live it.
