Job overview

Full time during the School’s term time

Godstowe is one of the leading girls’ preparatory boarding schools in the U.K. with 440 pupils aged between 3 to 13. The girls and boys achieve outstanding results in their academic studies and all-round education. Approximately 70 girls (aged between 7 and 13) are full boarders at the School, living in one of our three Boarding Houses on our 12-acre site on the northern outskirts of High Wycombe. Each House is led by a Houseparent or Housemistress and their Deputy, with other resident Assistants contributing to the care and well-being of the girls.

We require an enthusiastic and efficient Assistant to join us. This is a full time role, with most weekend and evening work included in the weekly rota. Holidays are generous and as part of the remuneration, we offer free meals during term time and the option of accommodation in the Boarding House. Salary is paid monthly.

The role presents an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to immerse themselves in the environment of an outstanding educational institution – many of our previous Boarding Assistants have progressed their careers in education and boarding.

If you have a professional outlook and a can-do attitude coupled with a good sense of humour, as well as a caring and supportive personality, we would welcome your application.

Previous experience of having looked after children will be an advantage. Full training will be given in all aspects of the safeguarding of children, health and safety and our IT systems.

This post is restricted to female applicants, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Visits to the school prior to interview are warmly welcomed. To arrange a visit or if you would like more information about the role, please contact us at: HR@godstowe.org

How to Apply:

Please download an Application Form at https://www.godstowe.org/our-community/vacancies and, having read our Safeguarding and Recruitment policies, send the completed Application Form via email to: HR@godstowe.org

Closing date: 8am, Wednesday, 22 March 2023.

Please note that the School reserves the right to interview on receipt of applications and to appoint prior to the deadline, so early application is recommended.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to connect us at HR@godstowe.org

Godstowe School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check before taking up the post, along with pre-employment safeguarding checks.

Something Special is happening at Godstowe

Godstowe was founded by two strong, progressive women, originally in fact as a school whose purpose would be to prepare girls for the move down the hill to Wycombe Abbey School. Their vision was for an innovative, academic and broad education for girls and, without a doubt, this continues to live on in today’s school.

Our ethos is simple. All we want is for our girls and boys to be Confident, Happy and Successful. Indeed, if the first two are true, the third will almost certainly follow. Success is defined in many ways, and we mean successful in the broadest sense: successfully kind, successfully courteous as well as successful in achieving a wide range of goals. We keep our pupils busy and engaged, we entertain and intrigue them, encourage them, and excite them. Happy children are easy to teach.

With outstanding, highly qualified teaching staff as well as a strong and experienced pastoral team, excellent facilities, wonderful surroundings, a non-selective intake policy and a more positive, exuberant and industrious atmosphere than you will find in other schools, it is likely that most of our children will be happy to learn, happy to stretch themselves, happy to support each other, and happy to do whatever they can to take an active part in their own education. Why push children through the curriculum when they can be inspired to make their own journey, choose their own routes and arrive at their destination under their own steam?

Our pupils love their time at school. It never ceases to amaze me just how much highly motivated and enthusiastic people can willingly contribute, and we don’t just mean the girls and boys, we mean the staff and the parents too! Godstowe is alive with opportunity. Remember, to learn a lesson you need to live it.
