We are seeking a Residential Child Care Worker to join our specialist education provision to provide specific learning support for children aged 8 - 18 years who have complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties with associated autism spectrum conditions

If you have experience of working with young people in a school setting or children's service, are flexible, imaginative, enthusiastic and have good interpersonal skills to work with children, families and other professionals we would be pleased to hear from you.  Experience of working in a special school is not essential as the school runs its own extensive training programme.

The successful candidate will need to have held a full driving licence for at least 3 years.

As part of the care role it is important that we form an effective partnership with the young person’s family or carers, so it is important that the successful candidate has the interpersonal skills to build up a positive rapport.

Each young person in school is allocated a keyworker from the Care Staff Team who will have regular 1-1 sessions with them, usually outside of the classroom and liaise regularly with family or carers.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Head of Care.  They will be expected to ensure that pupils’ special educational needs are being addressed, having due regard for the School's philosophies and policies.  The post holder will work alongside the education team to ensure a young person meets the academic potential and that they have the necessary skills in preparation for adult life.

What you can get from working with us:

  • You'll be supported in working within an experienced staff team under the guidance of the Head of care
  • We'll provide you with regular supervision sessions to offer support and guidance
  • You will receive regular training appropriate to your role and the needs of the pupils
  • We support you in achieving a Level 3 diploma for Residential Childcare within 2 years of employment with us (if you don’t already hold the qualification or equivalent)
  • You get school holidays off (13 weeks a year) and your 45 hours per week are Monday to Friday.

Any candidates shortlisted will be invited to attend a informal interview day on 26th November 2020 and if successful at this stage, a formal interview on 27th November 2020.

Your Benefits

  • Priory Perks reward and discount scheme
  • Comprehensive induction
  • Pension scheme
  • We cover the cost of your enhanced disclosure check
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Commitment to your ongoing training and career progression
  • Employee recognition scheme.

Although Rossendale School is essentially a day School, we fully recognise that for a number of our pupils their wider educational, social and emotional needs cannot be met simply on a daily basis.  Hence the provision of weekly boarding (Monday - Friday) accommodation in a family type setting.  It is important that these young people have a home base (not necessarily with their natural family) to which they can return each Friday.

All residential pupils live off-site. There are two off-site cottages in Rawtenstall and a detached house in Newchurch, which provide accommodation for pupils.  All the accommodation is both warm and caring, yet provides structure and security, as well as offering opportunities for learning and personal development.  The successful applicant will be expected to complete two evenings and the sleep ins each week during term time.

Rossendale is a school catering for the needs of pupils who display social, emotional and mental health difficulties and whose learning disabilities may be affected by an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan.  The school admits boys and girls on both daily and residential placements.

Rossendale School has an excellent staff team who are enthusiastic and supportive to both the pupils and each other and has been judged to be 'Outstanding' in all areas by Ofsted.

References

For all roles we require a minimum of two references.  References provided must cover the last 3 years, for all of our services we will need to request all references from where you have worked with either Children or Vulnerable Adults. Please be advised that references may be requested prior to interview for roles within our schools.
