Job overview
Reporting to The Director of Music, the Resident Graduate Music Assistant will be responsible for providing general support to the music department. Precise tasks will depend slightly on the interests and skills of the person appointed but we anticipate this being a role fulfilled by a musician with very good keyboard skills.
This is a one year contract which would suit someone with energy and enthusiasm who has a degree in music or extensive musical expertise and would like to find out more about teaching.
Precise roles will depend on the skills of the successful applicant but are likely to include:
• Acting as the school’s chief accompanist, particularly regarding ABRSM examinations (five sessions between October and May).
• Helping to coach chamber music groups.
• Helping to promote music concerts.
• Helping with lunchtime activities.
The Resident Graduate Assistant will be offered subsidised local accommodation as well free school lunches and use of the school’s facilities such as use of the sports centre and all of the music department’s resources (when they are not otherwise in use).
The music department possesses three grand pianos, a Bluthner, a Bosendorfer and a Steinway model D and about 20 upright pianos, mainly good quality Yamaha or Kawai pianos, purchased in the last four years. We also possess a harpsichord made by Malcolm Rose and a fortepiano. There is also a state of the art recording studio available for use.
Hours of work
These are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with start and finish times to be agreed with the line manager. There will be a requirement for some flexibility in these hours e.g. if required at evening concerts. These hours will be worked during term time only, with some additional hours being required at the start and end of each term. These extra hours should normally be claimed for as TOIL.
Salary
This will be a fixed salary of £15,375 for the duration of the one year contract.

Gatwick airport is only 30 minutes by car, and there are good transport links to other London airports and the Channel Tunnel.
Sevenoaks students have access to a fantastic range of facilities on campus for co-curricular pursuits, including sport, music, drama and art, at least 70 clubs and societies, a wide range of study trips and exchanges, and a well-established community service programme. Recent developments on campus include a superb sports centre, and a state-of-the-art performing arts centre, and a world-class Science and Technology Centre and a Global Study Centre for the Sixth Form.
