About the role

Lonsdale is a school with a focus upon innovation and development in education in its broadest sense.

Due to our increase in pupil numbers, we are looking for new members of staff to join our committed, ever growing staff team. The Residential Student Support Worker is responsible for delivering all the aims, educational needs, development and residential care for all pupils in the school, ensuring a person-centred and holistic approach.

Lonsdale School is a PNI school in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Our Residential Educational Provision was rated Outstanding in June 2019 and is open Monday to Thursday nights for Upper School students to learn independent living skills. Lonsdale School has state of the art facilities having opened in new surroundings in 2013. We are a lively, contemporary and warm-hearted school. To find out more about us take a look at our website, it’s all there for you. If you like what you see we would love to hear from you.

The position is therefore exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Lonsdale is a vibrant, happy and flourishing place. We are a special school for young people with physical and neurological impairments (PNI), as a primary need. We provide support for our pupils who often have other SEN needs including speech and language communication, hearing or visual impairment, autistic spectrum disorder, learning difficulties and social emotional mental health needs. All our learners have an EHCP.

People sometimes ask us what is the secret but we don’t see it like that. For all of us who learn, teach and work here, three things in particular matter: belief, ambition and community.

Belief: because we share a vision that shapes each day – to be a safe, caring and open school for each and every one of our pupils, whatever their needs.

Ambition: because we want everyone to reach beyond what they think they can do, to grow and develop throughout their time with us, so that they go onto the next stage of their lives as confident, outward-looking young people who believe in themselves and what they can achieve.

Community: because that’s what gives us our identity. Everyone belongs to the Lonsdale family. We learn from each other, we listen and support one another. Pupils, staff and parents work together. That’s how we provide so many exciting opportunities, that’s what gives us the confidence to do so much. We’re even more proud of the fact that we can offer our pupils such a diverse interesting and well-taught curriculum and that our older students take GCSE and BTEC courses which lead them onto college places and higher education.

We don’t neglect sport and the arts. We are a National Wheelchair Hub School and Youth Sports Trust Innovation School. We have links with arts organisations, and we take our pupils out of school to learn, to take part and contribute to the world around them.  We want to ensure that Lonsdale’s pupils have skills and qualifications, that they are resilient and that they have the confidence to take on the many opportunities that lie ahead of them.

Lonsdale – Learning for Life!
