Job overview

Vision for Education are recruiting for a Residential Support Worker / Teaching Assistant to work at a specialist supported living provision and school in West Northumberland.

Shift patterns for the provision are 24 hours from 8:30am till 8:30am the following day. This will incorporate supporting the student in their school-based education as well as a sleep-in night shift at the residence. You will work 1 24 hour shift and then have 2/3 days off before undertaking another.

You will be joining a group of specialist, skilled and motivated staff to support a student who has a range of social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) and challenging behaviours. An empathetic, understanding, calm and approachable nature is required to be eligible for this role. 


Preferred qualifications/experience:

  • Hold a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Childcare or a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Have experience working with young people who have previously struggled in mainstream education 
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS check, placed on the Update Service
  • Have experience in behaviour/aggression de-escalation techniques


Requirements for this position:

  • Due to the location of the residence, having a driving license and access to a car is necessary
  • You must be able to work 24 hours shifts from 8:30am till 8:30am including a sleep-in night shift
