About Barr’s Hill

Barr’s Hill School is an Academy, working in partnership with President Kennedy School, an outstanding neighbouring school. The school’s diversity and high aspirations for all are unique strengths. Barr’s Hill School is on a beautiful green site and has a 100 year history within the City.

We are a smaller secondary school with a very special family atmosphere and we place an emphasis on ensuring our students feel supported and happy. Our school focuses on each student individually ensuring they make outstanding progress and reach their true potential.

Headteacher

Chris Jupp

The Bridge

Year 7 students will join ‘The Bridge’: a custom designed area just for them, with both social and teaching spaces and a specialist team of teachers who are experts in Year 7 learning and progress.

The Bridge helps to ensure each Year 7 student feels safe and happy as they make the transition from primary to secondary school. The Bridge offers personalised timetables, a carefully crafted curriculum and additional small group lessons so that every student can make rapid progress. Before they join us, students take part in our transition programme helping them to feel confident about their new venture whilst making new friends ready for

September.

“I felt very happy and excited to start Secondary school at Barr’s Hill in The Bridge. It’s great that Year 7s have their own space. The Bridge to The Future programme meant that I had already made friends and knew lots of teachers before I even started.” - Brandon, Year 7 Bridge Student.

The Experience

We offer a diverse range of Sports, Creative, Performance and Service opportunities as well as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

We have formed close links with Warwick and Coventry Universities, The RSC and Jaguar Landrover; we offer our students amazing opportunities and expect them to be very busy!

We have traditional and high expectations of our students.

Uniform is smart and mobile phones are not allowed in lessons or at social times; we value face to face conversations not screens.

We have high expectations of our students. Our students must demonstrate PRIDE at all times.

Post 16 Select

After progressing through the ‘Hubs’ from The Bridge to KS4 older students will join Post-16 Select, a joint venture with President Kennedy School’s 6th Form that enables us to offer a huge range of courses with some of the best teaching in Coventry.

Students can study a range of challenging academic subjects such as: Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths, English, Languages, History, Geography, Psychology and Sociology all the way to A-Level. We also have some of the best Creative Arts and vocational provision in Coventry. “The teaching has been challenging but supportive. I am hoping to do well in my A-levels and go onto University to study Law.” - Ria, Post-16 Select Student.

GCSE Results

In 2019 we were delighted with our results at both GCSE and A-level. At GCSE progress made by students will put the school in the top 2% nationally, indeed, progress is likely to be the strongest in Coventry for non selective schools.
