Job overview
We are looking for an outstanding, experienced and engaging Saxophone Teacher/ Performer to join our growing and extremely vibrant Music Department.
Successful candidates should be capable of teaching all types of saxophone to individual pupils aged from 7 to 18 in a wide variety of styles - Classical, Popular and Jazz. This would range from beginner to Diploma standard, preparing pupils for ABRSM & Trinity face-to-face and online examinations, concerts, masterclasses, assemblies and other performances.
A wide and varied role, in addition to individual teaching, the successful postholder would also be required to teach the school’s thriving, co-curricular KES Saxophone Ensemble (Senior pupils) which rehearses for 40 minutes each week and actively lead them in regular performances both in and outside school. Playing to the wider community, this ensemble has been met with regular recent success in local Mid-Somerset Festival competitions, as well as regularly taking part in our performance partnership with the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
It is currently estimated the successful candidate will initially teach between 13 to 14 hours over two to three days per week from the start of term in September, however, the recruitment of new saxophone players will be actively encouraged through saxophone demonstrations, assemblies and incentives through which, it is expected, that the number of teaching hours will grow. We are an inclusive school and welcome applications from people of all beliefs and backgrounds.

About King Edward’s School, Bath
Welcome
King Edward’s School was founded in 1552 and takes great pride in its long history as Bath’s oldest school. KES has held a special place in this wonderful city for well over four and a half centuries and is now firmly established as one of the leading schools in the South West of England.
As the city’s former grammar school, KES has a very healthy tradition of nurturing academic excellence and ambition, reflected these days in the School’s consistently outstanding results. Our pupils are bright, inquisitive, and aspirational, but they also have their feet firmly on the ground and understand that individual excellence shines most brightly in the service of the collective team effort.
"KES states that it's a school for 'adventurous minds' and we agree. The engaging curriculum, wide creative arts offering and host of clubs, trips and academic competitions, should kindle curiosity and a love of learning in all pupils". Good Schools Guide 2025
The ethos of the School is one that encourages all pupils to play as hard as they work and to make the most of all the wonderful opportunities here, both in and out of the classroom, that enable them to grow and thrive within a supportive and caring framework. We set the bar high, but we also give our pupils all the tools that they need to reach those ambitious standards. We aim to foster talent in all its forms and to open doors to enquiry and discovery. Independent-mindedness and creative spirit are strong suits, but so too is the sense of community that seeks to respect and value all its members.
"KES pupils are genuinely interested to learn and this, combined with a teaching staff who push themselves to deliver top notch lessons, means that outcomes are excellent". Good Schools Guide 2025
As a family of three schools, the Pre-Prep, Junior and Senior sections of King Edward's offer an inspiring and supportive environment for children age 3 to 18. Some join us just for the sixth form, many stay for their entire school career. All pupils are encouraged to be the best they can be and all are nurtured along the pathway to leading happy, fulfilled and successful lives at school and beyond.
