Established in 2020, SMB Group is formed of two merged Colleges – Stephenson College and Brooksby Melton College - and their commercial entities.

Our purpose is to improve opportunities for our students, underpinned by a commitment to excellence, innovation and inclusion. Our aim is to create a first-class College Group, which speaks with one powerful and strategic voice, retaining deep roots in the local communities it serves. This combination of local access to skills development within a strategic regional framework is at the heart of what we do.

The positive culture of the merged colleges builds upon strong and effective collaboration with all key stakeholders, including local authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, schools, universities, employers and community groups. SMB Group works closely with industry partners to ensure it provides the skills needed now and for the future.

Our students access high-quality learning and teaching in some excellent facilities with industry-standard resources and exceptional staff. This supports each student to achieve their full potential and contribute to sustainable economic growth and a thriving community. 

By working together, SMB Group delivers an accessible and coherent curriculum to support the development of skills using an efficient and financially sustainable model, demonstrating positive outcomes for students.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the SMB Group, and thank you for your interest in our organisation.

As the Chief Executive and Principal, I feel privileged and proud to lead two Colleges where students are at the heart of every decision we take; our results confirm this with high levels of student achievement, positive progression to other courses or successful first steps into the world of work. We make no apology for our high standards and expectations; we have big ambitions for every student who joins us, as you become part of the family and we make every effort to enable you to exceed your expectations and reach your full potential.

Our purpose is simple - we want our students to have the very best possible access to learning, which will enable them to leave us career-ready at the end of their study. We are confident that with such a great team of staff and students, this will long-remain and our successes at Brooksby Melton College and Stephenson College will continue to grow from strength to strength.

We are very proud of our caring and inclusive community, where we hope that all students are provided with an environment in which they can flourish and achieve to the very best of their ability. As well as fantastic teaching and learning facilities, we place a high emphasis on enrichment activities within each course programme, to ensure that as well as academic achievement, our students are happy, healthy and confident. 

We work hard to ensure our students will become productive citizens in the widest sense. This includes, students becoming informed on climate change challenges, getting involved in volunteer work, and respecting and celebrating the diversity of our communities.

A critical part of our success is the excellent employer links and long-term partnerships we have with Volvo, Barratt Homes, Leicester Tigers Rugby Club and Leicester City Women Football Club, plus our very own Theatre and a land based campus that covers 850 acres.

Our popularity at both Colleges remains high and we believe that our commitment to learning is reflected in our student numbers and their achievements. The most recent inspection from Ofsted confirmed this, with our Colleges formerly acknowledged as Good providers. We are continuing to work hard and improve our offering to ensure we deliver on our ambition to become Outstanding providers - our students, staff and the communities we serve deserve that.
