Job overview

The Learning Development Team (LDT) is tasked with enhancing the ability of teachers to employ evidence based teaching and learning practices to their classroom environment and assist them in differentiating the curriculum for student learning.  The Team is responsible for ensuring all students are achieving appropriately, in particular those with diverse learning needs.

Working within the culture and ethos of the school, the Learning Development Team Assistant works as part of this team providing inclusive and evidence based opportunities to students with diverse learning needs in  Years 7 – 12.

Duties

Communication

· reflect the culture and ethos of the school through personal interactions and communication

· communicate with staff and students in a polite and professional manner

· Build rapport with teachers and students

· collaborate to build a shared understanding of the individual needs of identified students

· assist with the procedures of identifying, tracking and documenting student need.

· refer enquiries and incidents to the Head of Learning Development

Assisting with Learning

· work with individual students, with small groups and in class across all subject areas – under the direction/supervision of teachers

· undertake training to deliver literacy intervention

· use initiative in dealing with minor behavioural matters when supervising group work

· collaborate with teachers around appropriate workload and differentiation for identified students 

Preparation and Routines

· assist students with personal organization in readiness for the school day

· prepare organizational tools for students

· document support delivered

· assist with ordering resources

· assist with excursions as required.

· Assist with administration of Special Provisions for assessments


Selection Specifications 

· good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents and teaching professionals

· sound interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

· well-developed organisational skills that will assist in the teaching of effective learning behaviours to students

· strong ICT skills

· the ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

The following qualifications are required:

· Senior First Aid certificate with child care component or a willingness to obtain one

· Diploma or Certificate III in Children’s Services or equivalent
