School Bus Guide

Contract Type: Permanent, Term time only

Hours per week:  20 hours per week, 4 hours per day - (07:45-09:45 hrs and 14:45-16:45 hrs)

Salary Range: Band B, Point 3-6, £18,562 - £19,312; Pro-rata.  Actual Pay:- £8,332 - £8,669 per annum, (£9.62 - £10.01 per hour).

Work Location: Borough of Solihull – including Chelmsley Wood, Kingshurst, Solihull, Shirley and some cross-border travel in to Birmingham areas.

Solihull Academy is a free school, which opened in April 2018.  We will cater for up to 110 Year 9-11 pupils that will ensure all students across the Local Authority have access to a high-quality alternative educational provision.

Situated in Solihull, just minutes off junction 4 of the M42, the alternative provision Academy will provide a safe, well-ordered, caring and highly supportive learning environment that will deliver high-quality education to students who need a more closely-focused learning solution. The use of outstanding, inspiring teaching and clear, consistent guidance and support will play a pivotal role in helping each child fulfil their maximum potential for growth, self-worth, and self-control.

Many children in Solihull have various needs and require help getting to and from school.  If there is no one there for them, they miss out on all the opportunities a day at school provides – the chance to learn, to play and to make new friends.

We are looking for a School Bus Guide to escort pupils with learning and behavioural difficulties on a commissioned public bus to and from school.  If you can spare a few hours in the morning and afternoon, term time only, you’ll give a child the chance to make the most of their day.

You will need a patient, caring and understanding approach to children.  Your own transport may be needed to travel to the starting bus stops, but no driving of buses is required.

You will be expected to travel to the bus depot to pick up the commissioned bus service, and then travel through the bus route to pick up pupils at allocated bus stops en-route to school.  You will then be dropped back at the depot after you complete the morning shift.  In the afternoon you will then be expected to travel to the depot again to complete the afternoon shift to return pupils home from school.  You will then be dropped back at the depot after completing the afternoon shift.
