St Christopher’s School wishes to recruit a School Business Manager with duties ideally to commence in September 2017, or as soon thereafter as possible.

  • Do you want to be part of a hard-working, highly professional team?
  • Do you like sunshine, a high standard of living and a lifestyle that offers a wide range of opportunities?
  • Would you like a good tax free salary, free furnished housing, medical insurance, annual travel allowances, baggage allowance and free high-quality education for any children of your own?
  • Sound like you? Then apply now to join our excellent and dedicated team at St Christopher’s.

St Christopher’s is a highly successful school with a world-wide reputation for excellence. The School has 2300+ students (from ages three to 18) and nearly 400 employees and is a not-for-profit institution. It is expected that the new SBM will take the major role in managing the non-educational side of the school’s operations, reporting directly to the Principal.

The successful candidate will have an accounting qualification and knowledge to allow him or her to oversee the work of the Financial Controller and accounts staff, as well as wider experience in managing a range of areas drawn from HR, facilities, managing building projects, sponsorship and other operational matters. Experience in a school environment will be a strength as will qualifications in an area of management other than accounting.  SBM qualifications are particularly welcome.

INFANT & JUNIOR SCHOOLS (3-11 years) NOR 1180 / 6 form entry

SENIOR SCHOOL (11-18 years) NOR 1110 / 8 form entry

Further information

The current Principal of St Christopher’s School, Ed Goodwin OBE, has announced that he will leave the school, after 23 years, at the close of the 2017-18 school year. The new School Business Manager will work with Ed Goodwin over the year and will immediately assume prime responsibility for the financial aspects of managing the school, which are currently handled by the Principal.  This will be a major focus of the first year, but, in addition, the SBM will also manage other areas according to his or her specific knowledge and strengths.

In other areas that may be new, or relatively so, to the SBM, the Principal will retain a supervisory role, but will work alongside the SBM to mentor him or her, so that the SBM can take on the full role in the following year, under a newly appointed Principal.

An indicative Position Description is available. This will form the basis for deciding which duties will be assigned the first year and which will wait until the following year.

Benefits

We offer a highly competitive tax free salary package currently well in excess of UK rates, free furnished housing, medical insurance, annual travel allowance, baggage allowance and free high-quality education for any children of your own.

Established in Bahrain, St Christopher's School is widely recognised as one of the world's top British schools overseas. It first opened in the grounds of St Christopher's Church in 1961. The School overcame the many challenges those early days presented; ever growing and ever developing and, in 1975, became independent of the Church with a number of companies acting as ‘Founders’; these ensured the continued advances that St Chris has made to become the excellent home of learning that it is today.

Those involved with the School in 1961 could hardly have imagined that a school with an initial roll of thirty would evolve into one with around 2,300 students from over 65 nations at any one time; a school with a notable international reputation with exceptional facilities and resources.

An important aspect of the School is that St Christopher's is a not-for-profit institution. Members of the Board of Governors serve in a voluntary and entirely unpaid capacity and there are no owners and no shareholders - all income from fees is used to run and further develop the School for the benefit of children. This is just one of many features that sets St Christopher's School apart as the premier choice for those parents who need and demand the very best British style education for their children in Bahrain.

Not only does St Chris have a consistently excellent record of academic success, we also offer a very fine programme of extracurricular activities and personal development opportunities, including many overseas cultural, sporting and academic trips.

St Christopher's is a highly successful school, firmly established in the British tradition, augmented by an international outlook. We have been inspected under three different inspection regimes:

  • British Schools Overseas regulations (recognised by the UK Department for Education) as equivalent to those used to inspect independent schools in England (OFSTED)
  • British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) Accreditation Programme
  • National Authority of Qualifications and Quality Assurance for Education and Training (BQA – Kingdom of Bahrain) Inspection

In all of these we received a rating of “Outstanding” – not just as an overall assessment but for every aspect of performance as well.

Our standing as a prominent overseas British school is further indicated by our acceptance into membership of the prestigious HMC (the organisation of which all the leading UK independent schools are members - http://www.hmc.org.uk/) and IAPS (the top 600 leading independent UK and worldwide prep schools - https://www.iaps.org.uk/.
