Job overview

Princess May Primary School is looking for a modern and forward-thinking School Business Manager with a proven track record of success to drive the school forward in its pursuit of becoming outstanding in all areas. The post is arising as a result of the promotion of the current SBM.

Excellent progress has been made over the last two years in terms of financial compliance and the digitisation of work flow across the school. The Headteacher and Governing Board are keen that this legacy is maintained and developed even further. Our ambition is to become a fully paperless school and so the right candidate will be highly competent in ICT. The school currently has 'Grade A Full Assurance' from the latest Local Authority finance audit, and it is essential that the successful candidate maintains this rating. This is in addition to the plethora of other responsibilities expected of a modern business manager such as marketing and promotion, health and safety, lettings, parent liaison and much more. The successful candidate will be the most senior member of the leadership team after the Headteacher.

The Headteacher is looking to build highly efficient and competent teams across the full range of support functions within the school, which will require a School Business Manager  with proven strong leadership and management skills, particularly surrounding recruitment of a stable and high-performing office team. The SBM will be fully accountable to the  Headteacher for the performance of the office team and will directly manage an Office Manager and Administration/Attendance Officer. The successful candidate will benefit from working with an exceptional Premises Manager already in post.

Our new SBM will join and be fully supported by an experienced senior leadership team, united around clear school priorities for the current academic year and beyond. The SBM will be instrumental in shaping our future strategy and driving school improvement for the next 3-5 years, and work tirelessly to secure the future of the school through robust recruitment of pupils to our Nursery and EYFS provision.

Princess May is a two-form of entry school in a vibrant area of the London Borough of Hackney, situated between Stoke Newington and Dalston. We currently have 368 pupils on roll, including a nursery,  a high number of which are eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant. The school is fully inclusive, with very strong community support and engagement. A strong teaching and learning team ensure that each child reaches their full potential, regardless of background or economic barriers. This is our core purpose.

The school is close to excellent transport links, including Dalston Kingsland, Dalston Junction, Hackney Downs and Stoke Newington. There are many local amenities and a host of international restaurants and cafes to enjoy at lunch time and after work. Hackney is an excellent place to work and live, with a highly-supportive local authority network still in place to support both business functions and teaching and learning

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged. Please contact recruitment@princessmay.hackney.sch.uk to arrange a suitable time or telephone the school office on 020 7254 1589 for an informal and confidential conversation with the Headteacher.
