Job overview

Are you committed and passionate about making a difference to the life chances of our students? Are you looking for an interesting, varied and challenging opportunity?

We are seeking a School Business Manager to join our leadership team, reporting directly to the Headteacher. You will have responsibility for managing our budget and will manage our administrative systems and processes, including responsibility for examinations. You will provide some administrative support for senior staff, supporting the day to day running of the school, and will manage a small, experienced team of admin staff including a receptionist, SEN administrator and caretaker.

Ideally you will have some experience of school administration including the use of school finance, HR or exam systems. Specifically, an ability to use the Oxfordshire on-line Budget Planning Software (BPS) and/or the Integrated Business Centre (IBC) will be an advantage. If you have some experience of managing finance, HR and IT but are not familiar with these systems, we are happy to provide a comprehensive training programme and will provide on-going training and support.

Northfield is a Special School for pupils with specific difficulties; pupils are placed here because they have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties that prevent them from making good progress in a mainstream setting. In general, the behaviour of our pupils is excellent and is always well managed by our staff, but individual pupils can be challenging at times and you will need to be robust and resilient when this occurs; ensuring that you uphold the policies of the school with the support of other staff.

This is a new role for the school. It will undoubtedly be a demanding and varied role that will be ideal for someone who has excellent organisational skills and can work independently, as well as part of a team.

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Have proven financial experience in a school or business

  • Be able to work constructively with external service providers and agencies including exam providers
  • Be supportive and hardworking and able to work as part of a team
  • Be willing to contribute to the overall ethos, work and values of the school

If you are interested, visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. Please contact Elena in the School Office on 01865 771703 or email: jobs@northfieldschool.co.uk to arrange a visit.

Northfield School is a Special School for boys, aged between 11 – 18, with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. The school is situated in Oxford and accepts students from across the whole county, with approximately 60 students on roll.

Our students have a wide range of additional needs including Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Conduct Disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Speech and Language Difficulties and Specific and Moderate Learning Difficulties.

Northfield School facilitates the social and emotional needs and academic development of students through a personalised approach that ensures all students are supported, valued and challenged. We offer a tailored curriculum which is delivered by a specialised, dedicated and experienced staff team. This approach enables students at Northfield School to develop academically, socially, emotionally and behaviourally.

Northfield School's ethos is a child centred approach, designed to provide every student with the structure, security and success required to build confidence and self-esteem in preparation for adult life. Northfield School promotes excellence in all things to inspire and challenge our students so that they leave proud of their achievements.

In short, our children and young people are respected, supported and encouraged.

Pupils are taught in small groups, currently there are typically seven pupils in a group with each class benefitting from a teacher and a teaching assistant. As a result, the relationships between adults and our pupils tend to be very strong and trusting, which enables pupils to feel valued and to develop self-worth. The curriculum is broad and well-balanced, with all pupils receiving tuition on all National curriculum subjects at both key stages, including a range of options for pupils in KS4. In addition to the in-school offer, a small number of pupils benefit from our close links with a local college. We are currently recruiting for new leadership posts in English and maths to further strengthen our curriculum offer in all years, and to raise attainment at KS4.
