School Business Manager

Undershaw Education is looking for a modern and forward-thinking School Business Manager with a proven track record of success to drive the school forward in its pursuit of becoming outstanding in all areas and a centre of excellence.

We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) as the leading support staff professional, working with the Headteacher to ensure that the School delivers its strategy and meets its aims.  This is a key role and the successful candidate will be joining Undershaw at an exciting time – as we launch our new vision and strategic plan. 

We are a non-maintained independent specialist school with places funded by our Local Authorities.  Our school offers provision for children with mild to moderate learning difficulties and ASD. We provide an education for those who might not thrive in a mainstream setting but who equally would not be suited to attending a specialist SEN school - we offer an alternative which sits in the niche just between the two.  

Our school currently has 85 students and is based in the former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with our aim being to ‘eliminate the impossible’ for each and every child and to become a Centre of Excellence and Influence for SEND education.  

We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of a small school, relishing the ‘hands-on’ nature our post offers – it will require ‘doing’ operationally as well as ‘thinking’ strategically. The successful candidate will, as a member of the SLT, make a significant contribution to driving improvement as part of our journey to excellence in all aspects of the School.

Our new SBM will join and be fully supported by an experienced senior leadership team, united around clear school priorities for the current academic year and beyond. The SBM will be instrumental in shaping our future strategy and driving school improvement. It is an incredibly exciting new chapter for us as a school as we work to make our brand new offer and strategic vision for the future a reality.  Above all, we are seeking a dedicated professional who is passionate about their role and who wants to use their talents and vocation to genuinely make a difference to ensure the delivery of the best possible educational and life outcomes for each of our wonderful and talented students, championing diversity and promoting an aspirational vision for SEND education.

The SBM is responsible for providing professional leadership and management for all staff generally, as a member of the SLT, and specifically for the School’s support staff.  Working in partnership with the Headteacher and the Board of Governors, the SBM will have key responsibilities, and lead the support staff team, in the following areas: 

• Leadership and Strategy 

• Data Protection and Systems 

• Human Resources 

• Health and Safety 

• Premises and Site 

• Admissions and Marketing 

• Administration and Compliance 

• Management Information Systems & IT

• Financial Resource Management

This is a full-time role, 52 weeks, with 28 days holiday entitlement where there can be some flexibility as to when it is taken.  There will be school events and meetings that take place outside the usual working day/week, including some evenings, that the jobholder will need to attend as a member of the SLT. There may also be opportunities to work from home for half a day a week to focus on strategic development.

Salary is expected to be in the range £45k – £55k dependent on qualifications and experience, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate.
