School Chaplain (Leadership Scale Point 1)

Required for September  2019 (or sooner if possible)

We are excited to recruit an ordained Church of England priest to become our part-time Chaplain at The Grey Coat Hospital. The Grey Coat Hospital, founded in 1698, is a Church of England school for girls aged eleven to eighteen with a mixed Sixth Form. The historic foundation of the school and its current ethos are rooted in a confident and generous Christian faith and practice, which welcomes students and staff of all backgrounds and beliefs. The successful candidate will lead and develop the Church of England ethos of the school and teach as required.

The school is situated in the heart of central London close to excellent transport links. We are a heavily oversubscribed comprehensive school for girls with excellent GCSE results. 87% of students attained 5+ subjects overall including 9-4 English and Maths.  50% of all grades attained in all subjects at KS4 were A*-A or 7-9. We also have a large sixth form of 240 students where students achieve outstanding results with a percentage of top grades well above the national average.

The school, when last inspected, was judged to be ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED in March 2009 and November 2005. In 2014, the school achieved ‘outstanding’ in the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. We are proud of our ethos of continued self-improvement, which characterises every aspect of our culturally diverse school. Since 2012, the school has been named amongst the top 100 non-selective state-funded schools, in recognition of excellent attainment and progress of our students at KS4. The school is committed to building on our passion for excellent teaching and learning as well as continuing to place an emphasis on our language specialism and international ethos.

This is a part-time Chaplaincy position (0.6FTE) but could be full-time if the additional time (0.4FTE) were made up with teaching lessons.

We are looking for someone who will:

• Lead and develop, together with the Head Teacher, the Church of England ethos of the school;

• Lead and facilitate collective worship across the school and all Church services;

• Offer pastoral support to students within the existing pastoral structure of the school and offer support to staff;

• Provide opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, and Christian teaching, for individuals and groups;

• Maintain a Christian perspective on all aspects of the life of the school, working with staff, students and parents from across the school.

• Maintain and establish links beyond the school;

• Teach at Key Stages 3-5 as required (6 lessons per week). The teaching commitment would be greater if the role were full-time as the additional time would be made up with teaching lessons.

The school has an excellent programme of support for all new staff and is committed to professional development.  We actively encourage teachers to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for all posts.

Interviews will take place in the week beginning Monday 4th March 2019

Closing date for applications: Monday 25th February 2019, 12:00 noon

About The Grey Coat Hospital

We are a heavily oversubscribed Church of England multi-ethnic comprehensive academy for girls offering a rich educational experience for girls from 11 to 16, and for girls and boys in the Sixth Form. The school is situated in the heart of central London close to excellent transport links.

We believe in the value of education for its own sake, as well as a means through which students can gain access to further opportunity in the future. Through a strong pastoral structure which ensures that every student is known as a person, each individual is set on the path to realising his or her potential within the context of a caring Christian community. We have strong values which enable students to learn their responsibilities towards each other and the community.

The Grey Coat Hospital has been consistently recognised by the Department for Education and SSAT for being in the top 5% of non-selective state-funded schools nationally for excellent attainment and achievement at Key Stage 4 and attainment and achievement of disadvantaged students
