St Dominic’s School, an Autism accredited school  rated “Good” by Ofsted, is a weekly residential and day school catering for up to 110 students between the age of 7 – 19 who have a range of academic abilities but with complex special needs. St Dominic's offers a truly multi-disciplinary approach. Teachers work with therapy and care staff to enhance the learning process and provide an exciting waking day curriculum. 

We are looking to appoint a School Counsellor and Behaviour Support Officer who will be part of a trans-disciplinary team that supports the physical, mental health and emotional wellbeing of pupils and students throughout the waking day curriculum. You will provide 1:1 counselling sessions in a school setting for our pupils and students. Your responsibilities will include the involvement of the referral and assessment process, timetabling of sessions, liaising with families, school staff, other professionals and agencies, attending multi-agency meetings and adhering to school policies and procedures including child safeguarding procedures. 

You will also be involved in supporting our behaviour team, through the development, co-ordination and assessing of initiatives/interventions that promote pupil and student welfare while enhancing the overall engagement of pupils and students.  

Your positive attitude and ability to engage and encourage children and young people will be essential as will your ability to work flexibly to meet their individual needs. You will also be able to build positive and professional rapport with the children and young people, as well as their families, with the ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.   

A relevant qualification in Counselling (degree/diploma) or equivalent in CBT, psychotherapy and play therapy, and have relevant experience of supporting children and young people with diverse and complex needs will be required.
