School Counsellors have paid leave during the school breaks (this leave is accrued across the school year). School Counsellors are supported from the Catholic Schools Office and are provided with funds for clinical supervision and professional development.

Description

This position is currently allocated to 2 schools – Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School Tarro and St Dominic’s Centre (K-10) Mayfield. This allocation is subject to change in accordance with the needs of the Catholic Schools Office.   Position Requirements CSO School Counsellors are responsible to the Coordinator Counselling Team at the Catholic Schools Office, Maitland Newcastle within the Student Support Unit of Teaching and Learning.

Applicants must have a 4 year degree in psychology, social work or counselling. Experience working within a school and/or with school-aged children is essential, as is a commitment to working within the Catholic ethos. Experience working with students with disabilities (particularly autism, cognitive disability and hearing impairment) will be highly regarded.  

Essential Criteria 

• Eligible for employment with the Catholic Schools Office Maitland Newcastle
• Minimum 4 year degree in psychology, social work or counselling. Psychologists must be registered with AHPRA
• Experience in assessment and counselling of primary aged students
• Understanding of, and support for, the ethos of Catholic Schools
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within schools
• Demonstrated ability to liaise with community agencies
• Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills, current drivers licence
• Experience working with students who have disabilities, and their families
• Knowledge of NDIS legislation and local disability service agencies
• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)number  Commencement Starts 12/7/21 Finishing Date 23/9/22 

Conditions of Employment

Conditions and salary commensurate with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools Office Employees Enterprise Agreement 2019-2021. The Catholic Schools Office (CSO), is responsible for the leadership, efficient operation and management of systemic schools which educate more than 18,000 students in 45 Primary schools, 10 Secondary schools and one K-12 school in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
