Samford Valley Steiner School invites applications for the role of School Director, commencing 19 September 2022 or earlier if possible. We are seeking an experienced school leader with a sound understanding of anthroposophy to exercise initiative, responsibility and imagination. 


The Samford Valley Steiner School is a well-established independent school approximately 24km (35 minutes’ drive) from Brisbane, in South East Queensland, Australia. Our school is located on 20 acres of forested land along Samford Creek, in the semi-rural Samford Valley. The School has experienced considerable growth since its inception in 1987 and is a strong and spirited educational facility providing an authentic Steiner Education to approximately 500 students from Pre-Prep to Year 12. Double-streaming commenced in 2017 to address high wait list numbers and will reach the high school in 2025. 


We have a vibrant and creative staff community of about 100, combining youth and experience, and a stable organisational structure. The College of Teachers sits at the heart of the structure and advises a Senior Leadership Team comprising of representatives of the different areas of the school and the School Director. The School Director is accountable to a governance Board. 

In the last few years, the school has increased its capital infrastructure, made strong improvements in administrative, financial and IT systems, and consolidated the School as an effective model of Steiner education in Australia. 


In consultation with the School Board, Senior Leadership Team and the College of Teachers, the School Director is to provide strong strategic leadership and effective management of a capable multi-disciplinary team, in order to further develop a resourceful, cohesive, financially robust and creative Steiner School which is well-regarded by the broader community.

About Samford Valley Steiner School

Samford Valley Steiner School is a mixed, non-selective, all-through school with sixth form in Queensland, serving students from the age of 3-18. The all-through school is situated in Wights Mountain.

Samford Valley Steiner School was founded in 1987 by a group of parents and teachers who were looking for a Steiner educational institution in Brisbane. The school values an excellence relationship between staff, students and parents. 

Facilities 

Samford Valley Steiner School offers a wide range of learning facilities, including a performance stage, science laboratories, a library, computer rooms and expansive outside grounds.

Curriculum

Children are educated through the school’s core ideals of wisdom, beauty and truth, in the belief that this will allow for them to reach their full academic and personal potential during their time in education. Dedicated teachers work to help pupils develop each child’s thinking and feeling, acknowledging the nature of the human being in body, soul and spirit. In high-school, students benefit from a mix of specialist teachers, with the aim that all pupils benefit from being taught by a passionate and experienced leader. Specialist classes are taught using three main teaching modes – main lessons, studio lessons and landscape lessons.
