Job overview

Thomas Tallis School is a large comprehensive school educating nearly 2000 young people aged between 11 and 18.  We have over 200 staff and a budget of £14 million.   We work with exciting and vibrant young people, providing an education that helps them understand the world and positions them for successful and happy futures.

We are looking for a talented professional to join our Senior Leadership team and play a key role in steering our financial strategy whilst also focusing on operational efficiency to ensure that we provide high quality value for money services resulting in the best education possible for our young people.    You will work closely with the Headteacher and be part of a talented team who enjoy working to high standards whilst treating each other with humanity and respect.

With a relevant professional qualification in finance or school business management, you are likely to have a track record of effective financial management, stewardship and reporting that is transferable.  This role is broader than just finance so experience of other relevant areas such as estates, procurement, PFI and Health and Safety would be an advantage.  Experience of working in a comparable school environment is of interest but is by no means essential.  Most importantly is that you have exceptional interpersonal skills, can marshal your arguments well and can learn quickly.

In return we offer a diverse and stimulating working environment with both exceptional educators and young people.   It is possible that the role could accommodate some flexibility in hours of work although this is not deemed to be a part time role, given its importance.

For more information visit www.pentir.com/thomastallis. For a confidential discussion please call our advising consultants Tom Atkins (07879 435232) or Mike Phillips (07830 313915).

Closing date: Monday 20th May 2019

Thomas Tallis School is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. Any offer of employment is subject to a satisfactory ‘Enhanced with a Barred List Check’ through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Located in Kidbrooke, south-east London, Thomas Tallis School is a large co-educational secondary school providing places to pupils aged 11-18. The school was originally founded in 1971. In 2012 it moved into a brand-new purpose-built building on the site of a former airfield.

With capacity for around 2,000 students, Thomas Tallis is larger than the average secondary school. It operates a large sixth form, welcoming students who have come up through Thomas Tallis School, as well as pupils from other schools in the local area.
