Job overview

We have exciting and rewarding opportunities across Croydon, Surrey, Crawley, Wokingham, Didcot and Banbury for you to join a local governing body (School Strategy Board) at a GLF School in your community.

GLF Schools is a multi-academy trust (MAT) which currently comprises primary and secondary school across Surrey, Croydon, West Sussex, Wokingham and Oxfordshire. As a MAT our local governance structure differs to that of a maintained school with a Governing Body, however we are clear that each school has a distinct character and culture to meet the needs of its community and context. We therefore recognise the value of retaining local governance bodies for our schools but we call these School Strategy Boards, to emphasise the purpose for their being. Whilst operating as a part of a family, each school exists in its own right maintaining its unique characteristics and individual identity and whilst all schools serve to meet the needs of the local community, all are united in their core purpose of providing an outstanding educational experience.

We are looking for a community member to join our School Strategy Board at The Beacon School; a large mixed comprehensive school in Banstead, Surrey. We are also looking for a community member to join our School Strategy Board at Springfield Primary School; a vibrant, caring school in Sunbury-on-Thames, and another at Forge Wood Primary School; a brand new two form entry primary school in Crawley.

The successful applicant will have a genuine interest in school governance, ensuring they keep abreast with current educational developments and legislation affecting schools.

As a member of the School Strategy Board at a GLF School, you will help plan the strategic direction of the school by setting the values, aims and objectives for the school. The School Strategy Board is the school’s accountable body and is responsible for the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards.

As a member of the School Strategy Board, your work will include:

· Determining the school improvement strategy which includes approving the budget and agreeing the staffing structure
· Monitoring and evaluating the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
· Planning the strategic direction of the school by setting the values, aims and objectives for the school

Expertise that will contribute to effective governance includes:

· Legal
· Finance
· Marketing
· HR
· IT
· Education
· Strategic Planning
· Project Management

If you would like to be considered for this position, please contact the GLF Recruitment Team by calling 020-8716-4987 or emailing recruitment@glfschools.org.

We reserve the right to withdraw this vacancy at any time ahead of the closing date if there is a good level of response. Therefore, we would recommend that you submit your application as early as possible.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment.
