Job overview

William Ellis School is a boys' school with a large mixed sixth form in the north of Camden. It is in an attractive site on the edge of Hampstead Heath with excellent access to Central London. It is a neighbourhood of great social and cultural diversity, and this diversity is very well represented at William Ellis. We educate some very able young people alongside a considerable number who are significantly disadvantaged.

The school is committed to nurturing successful students and good citizens through strong relationships in line with the school motto, “rather use than fame”. The school is part of the longest established and most successful mixed sixth form consortium in London, LaSWAP, which enables our students to access a wide range of subject expertise. We provide excellent professional opportunities for staff and are part of the Camden family of schools.

SEEKING SCHOOL GOVERNOR WITH SUBSTANTIAL EDUCATIONAL EXPERTISE

William Ellis School is seeking to appoint a governor with substantial educational expertise, as a Headteacher or senior leader with recent or current experience in a state secondary school, ideally in an inner city context and/or with high levels of deprivation.

The individual will have a strong personal commitment to the school’s values, aims and objectives. You will act in the best interests of the school by scrutinising papers, contributing to discussions and decision-making, and focusing on key issues relevant to the area of the school’s work in which you have special expertise. You will demonstrate integrity, strategic vision, sound and independent judgement, and an ability to think creatively and work effectively as a member of a team.

Meetings of the Governing Body take place twice a term, and in addition governors are required to join one of the sub-committees (Personnel and Resources, or School Improvement) which also meet twice a term.

The appointments are for four years in the first instance and are unremunerated.

To apply please send the following to the Chair of the Governors (contact details below):

• a CV including details of paid and voluntary work; and

• an application letter explaining the motivation for the application and the skills and experience the candidate can offer with reference to the selection criteria above.
