Purpose of the Role

The School Learning Officer in this position is required to demonstrate competency involving the application of knowledge with depth in some areas and a broad range of skills. There is a range of roles and tasks in a variety of contexts, where there is some complexity in the extent and choice of actions required. 

Competencies are within routines, methods and procedures. Some discretion and judgement are involved in selection of equipment, work organisation, services, actions and achieving outcomes within time constraints. 

Duties are performed under limited supervision and work may be checked in relation to overall progress. 

Duties may take the form of broad guidance and may involve a level of autonomy when working in teams. 

An employee in this position may have limited responsibility for guidance of the work of others. Peer assistance may be provided to others. Team co-ordination may be required. 

Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements/ Selection Criteria

  • Unless an exemption applies all staff are required to hold a current Working With Children Blue Card or be eligible to apply
  • Promote child safety at all times
  • Current drivers licence Document Name
  • A strong demonstrated commitment to the objectives, vision and ethos of Catholic Education 
  • Tertiary qualifications at Certificate level or equivalent qualifications relevant to the position may be required or such knowledge, qualifications and experience that are deemed by the employer as necessary to successfully carry out the duties of the position

About Holy Cross School

With a healthy enrolment of over 500 students, Holy Cross is a Preparatory to Year 6 Catholic Primary School located at Trinity Park on the fringe of the McCalistar Mountain Range in the northern beaches area of the city of Cairns, Queensland. Built on what was originally a sugar cane farm, the school commenced in 1987 with an enrolment of 28 students. Teachers committed to supporting, encouraging and challenging individual development of their students are highly valued by the school community.

The school has successfully implemented the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines and the Australian Curriculum is being implemented as it is being phased in. The skills, behaviours and attributes that students need to succeed in life and work in the 21st century have been identified in the Australian Curriculum as general capabilities. The school is committed to extending to all students opportunity to develop their capabilities across each of the nine learning areas in addition to Religious education.
