Are you passionate about working with young people and having a big impact on the quality of their education? Are you looking for a dynamic and fulfilling role that is varied and based in an energetic environment? If so, we have the perfect opportunity you for!
We are looking to appoint a School Librarian from September 2020. The role will suit someone looking to explore a career in education or an English teacher looking for a different kind of role within the school environment.
The opportunity may also appeal to someone who has worked in a school support role before but wants to branch out into more of a curriculum focused role or has taken a break from their teaching career and wants to explore something different before going back into the classroom.
Above all else though, the successful candidate will have a passion for literature, excellent to attention to detail and be an organised and committed professional ready to take on a new challenge.
You do not need to have worked in a school before to apply for the role but experience in a library or similar setting would be advantageous.
What KAA offers
The KAA library is at the heart of the school. We know literacy and access to books is crucial to help our students succeed. In this role, you will work closely with classroom teachers to promote the love of reading by recommending text choices for our ‘Morning Reading’ programme and you will help lead that initiative by training reading teachers to deliver exciting and purposeful sessions. You will also have the chance to oversee many enrichments and house competitions that run out the library, giving you an exciting opportunity to be creative and acquire strong organisational skills. Most interestingly, this role offers you the chance to enrich a student’s education far wider than what’s on their GCSE syllabus. It allows you to think creatively about how reading can teach them skills that their subject lessons may not give them so organically. As a result of that, you will become a positive influence in their school experience. As a large part of the role is student-centered, you will surely become the most important member of staff for a whole cohort of student librarians!
What you offer KAA
With a diverse student body, we are looking for someone who has the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their best. You will bring enthusiasm and creativity to the subject of reading so that students, across all abilities, develop a passion for literature and a wider love of learning. The role can offer a high level of autonomy for the right candidate and there will be many opportunities to manage the library in your unique style, ensuring that it retains the vibrancy and importance that it has built up over the last 6 years. The ideal person will be a skilled communicator, organised, personable and committed to improving standards.
At KAA we have a proud tradition of developing and investing in our staff. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience in schools, and previous librarians have gone on to take up senior roles in the school, and teach in the English department.
Due to the disruption caused by Covid-19 and the subsequent school closure, the deadline for applications has been extended to 5pm on Friday 3rd April 2020.
Interviews to take place after the Easter holidays.
