School Nurse

Reporting to: Quality & Health Education Manager

Essential Qualifications: Educated to Degree level, Registered Nurse Possession of current professional license to practice in Qatar

Key tasks and responsibilities: 

• Screens and evaluates findings for deficits in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, etc. Notify parents when further medical evaluation is indicated.

• Establish and update health and immunization records.

• Prepare and maintain student clinic records and prepare required reports.

• Administer daily and PRN (as needed) medications and nursing care procedures prescribed by the student's physician.

• Initiate emergency procedures for students and staff as needed.

• Obtains a health and developmental history for every student.

• Observes the child for development and health patterns in making a nursing assessment and nursing diagnosis.

• Identify health findings, which do not fall within the normal range. 

• Assist with physical examinations when conducted in the school.

• Develop and implement a health plan in coordination with the Quality & Health Education Manager.

• Interpret the health status of pupils to school personnel.

• Initiate referrals to parents, school personnel and community health resources for intervention, remediation, and follow through in coordination with the Quality & Health Education Manager.

• Provide ongoing health information to students, parents, school personnel and health agencies as needed in coordination with the Quality & Health Education Manager.

• Recommend and help to implement modifications of school programs to meet students' health needs in coordination with Quality and Health Education Manager.

• Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.

• Develop knowledge and competence and keep up to date in nursing practices.
