Job overview

The British School of Valencia is a British teaching institution located in the centre of the city of Valencia, founded in 1992. From the beginning it has sought to offer a distinct teaching model, basing its educational project on the two key pillars of respect and tolerance and where the pupils can continue with their ongoing personal development over their time at school. In addition it aims to ensure pupils’ consolidated learning in a foreign language from a very early age, responding to the growing demands of today’s society.

Initially the centre opened its doors only for primary school pupils, deciding to include a further academic level each school year. This model has allowed us to ensure the application of the teaching model we originally envisaged and continue to strive to improve. It is extremely satisfying to see how our pupils who started primary school with us, today having finished school, are now young people with an excellent academic and personal preparation who are able to tackle their university studies with confidence and enthusiasm.  We have now grown to a school with nearly 900 students and over 37 nationalities which has helped the school grow both in vision and values.

Recently acquired by the Cognita Group, this has allowed us to grow, develop and become part of a global network of schools.

Cognita’s network of 73 schools across  3 continents, combined with our investment in the professional development of our people, means we can now offer continuous opportunities for professional development and career opportunities on a global scale.

As a full time school psychologist and special and additional needs coordinator in our school you would work with students and their families to:

1) Support students' social, emotional, and behavioural health interfere with school success

2) Evaluate eligibility for special education services (within a multidisciplinary team)

3) Support students' social, emotional, and behavioural health

4) Teach parenting skills and enhance home–school collaboration

5) Make referrals and help coordinate community support service

You would work along with teachers and support staff to:

1) Identify and resolve academic barriers to learning

2) Design and implement student progress monitoring systems

3) Design and implement academic and behavioural interventions

4) Support effective individualised instruction

5) Create positive classroom environments

6) Motivate all students to engage in learning

Safer recruitment practice and rigorous pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed as Cognita Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and other third parties to share this commitment.

Closing date for applications will be 31st August 2019.
