Kensington Wade is a dual-language English-Chinese preparatory school that is due to open in West London in spring 2017. The mixed, independent school will be situated on the corner of Kensington High Street and Warwick Road, in a brand new, state-of the-art building, and will cater for 200 children.

Kensington Wade is named after a 19th-century British minister to China, Sir Thomas Wade, who spent 40 years in the country and later became the first professor of Chinese at Cambridge University. The school will be the first of its kind in Western Europe. It will prepare its pupils for the very best secondary schools, and instil in them a drive for academic excellence balanced with high cultural empathy.

Headmistress

Laura Marani

Values and vision

Kensington Wade will prepare its pupils for demanding English independent schools by not only teaching an appropriate curriculum, but also equipping them to communicate in written and spoken Chinese. All instruction will be delivered in both English and Chinese, while pupils will also benefit from a dual cultural approach.

Headmistress Laura Marani says: “The most effective way to learn a language is to absorb it naturally, with the equal exposure of two languages.” Pupils will gain not only knowledge, but the skills to use it in society. They will learn the fundamentals of language, mathematics and science, and also how to behave, cooperate, learn and take action.

Kensington Wade believes good behaviour and discipline are the key foundations of learning. The preparatory school will encourage courtesy, integrity, good manners and a respect for the needs of others.
