Job overview

We are seeking a Schools Transistions Co-ordinator to work on a project which aims to narrow the maths and English attainment gap for disadvantaged students in Derby City, fostering professional and community engagement for all those involved with post 16 maths and English delivery.  The Schools Transitions Co-ordinator will be pivotal to the success of the project by managing the collaboration of Derby College, schools and training providers within the city.


The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following specific attributes:


◦Knowledge of the English and maths curriculum and working with 16-19 year olds.

◦A teaching qualification.

◦Previous demonstrable experience, at supervisory level, of successful programme co-ordination and a thorough understanding of high level relationship management techniques.

◦Proven ability to form effective working relationships within a range of strategic and delivery stakeholders and colleagues.

◦Proven ability to deliver to small cohorts of students; raising aspirations and improving predicted grades. 

◦Willingness and ability to travel across Derby and Derbyshire as required.

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.   

Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
