Job overview

Salary:  Grade 4 £16,764 (point 7) to £18,146 (point 11) per annum - actual salary to reflect term time working.  

35 hours per week, term time only plus 1 week (i.e. 39 weeks per academic year)


The Role

We currently have a vacancy for an experienced technician to provide efficient and effective support to the science and food department, so this role will be a 50/50 split between both departments.  

In this position you will have responsibility for the preparation, distribution and retrieval of apparatus, ingredients, textbooks, worksheets, tests and other materials for lessons; including setting up and assisting teaching staff with science/food practical’s and demonstrations when required.  Working alongside another science technician, the role will have responsibility for the science preparation room; checking and maintaining the safety of equipment, controlling stock, maintaining stock records and storing and disposing of surplus chemicals in compliance with current regulations etc.  In relation to food, the role will be responsible for stock control and the maintenance of stock records, maintaining food safety standards, receiving goods into the relevant classrooms and checking and maintaining the safety of equipment.

The role will be subject to completion of a successful 6 month probationary period. 


What we’re looking for

Suitable candidates will possess a grade c/4 or above in maths, English and science.  With previous experience of working in a school laboratory, you will demonstrate a solid understanding of the health and safety regulations applicable to a laboratory environment and a good understanding of food safety standards.  You must be an excellent team player with the ability to establish and maintain good relationships with both students and colleagues alike, and must be adaptable to meet the varying demands of the job.

The School

Manchester Health Academy opened in September 2009 and is sponsored by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. In September 2010 the Academy moved into a £20 million state-of-the-art building and to accommodate a growing student population we have just completed a further £10 million expansion project. Rated by Ofsted in April 2015 as a good school, with many outstanding features, we are now embarking on the next stage of our journey to outstanding and are looking for exceptional and inspiring individuals to help us achieve this ambition.
