King Alfred School is a thriving 11-18 mixed comprehensive with 1,220 students on roll serving the towns of Burnham on Sea and Highbridge. The following vacancy exists:

SCIENCE DEPARTMENT TEACHING ASSISTANT 

12 hours per week (Thursday & Friday) Term Time only

(38 working weeks – 43.1281 paid weeks)

Salary Grade 13, points scale 17-21: Annual salary £17,772-£20,138

(Pro-Rata - £4,767 - £5,402)

Required as soon as possible, a creative individual who can relate positively to young people. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside school staff and to develop classroom management skills within the Science Department by supporting children in class, individually and in small groups and covering within the department and outside the department for absent teachers (after the 6 month probationary period). 

Essential personal qualities for this post are:

  • A good general education including confidence in Science.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to young people,      their welfare, education and personal development. You will also need to act as a role      model and have high expectations of conduct and behaviour.
  • Experience of working with, or relating to young people and to have a commitment to      their welfare, education and development.
