Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic science laboratory technician from Jan 2017 or earlier. Ideally, candidates should have a minimum of GCSE / O level in Physics and be familiar with the preparation of A level and GCSE practical activities and assessments. They should have good organisational skills and be familiar with the COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and Health and Safety regulations. They should have experience of school laboratory and technical work and also be computer literate.

The Science Department

The Science Department is extremely strong. Physics is a popular and successful subject choice with well-equipped laboratories and a dedicated preparation room. Students are taught in groups with a maximum of nine students. There are currently two Biology, three Chemistry and four Physics tutors with each subject having a Head of Department. There are also two other science laboratory technicians.

The students take the AQA examination for A Level Physics, Edexcel for Chemistry and OCR for Biology. They follow the Cambridge International Examination board for IGCSE and there is an internal foundation GCSE course.

Terms and Conditions

Hours of work: 25 hours pw (specific times negotiable)
40-week year (term-time plus 4 weeks)
Salary: £20k-24k pro-rata, dependant on experience and qualifications.

The college is co-educational, offering places to around 110 students aged 15-19 looking to study GCSEs and A-levels before entering university. The college was first founded in 1958, and over the years has developed a strong reputation among international sixth form colleges in the UK. Cambridge Tutors College has had significant investment over the years, and now boasts of a range of modern teaching facilities. Many students at the college will live with host families in the local area.
