An experienced Science teacher is needed at our school in Hong Kong. The ability to teach Maths is a plus, and you must have experience of teaching science to A level or IB, ideally Physics. We seek experienced, open minded teachers with a passion for learning and a creative, child-centred approach. In person interviews will take place in London on 2 December, Abu Dhabi on 7 December and in Shanghai on 24 November for a variety of position including this one.

Employment Package

Besides a very competitive salary, Yew Chung offers excellent benefits in most schools such as tuition waiver for dependent children, flights yearly, housing allowance, property agency fee allowance, medical insurance including dental, relocation allowance, visa application assistance and more.

Requirements:

  • Applicants to these schools must be fully qualified/certified in their subject in the form of a Bachelors of Education, BA plus PGCE or equivalent. A BA degree plus TEFL certificate is not sufficient, not even for the EAL specialist positions.
  • Teachers must have at least 2 years solid teaching experience post- qualifying (student teaching experience will not be counted).
  • Teachers must share, and be able to demonstrate, a shared vision and education philosophy

Yew Chung Education Foundation was started in 1932 in Hong Kong. From the beginning the Yew Chung concept has been unique and it is one that has resonated in fast-growing China and beyond. Yew Chung operates international schools that bring together East and West by having a Western and a Chinese co-Principal work together to lead their school, and by having Western and Chinese co-teachers work together in each classroom. Teachers plan and work together to provide students with a variety of learning experiences, help students develop English and Chinese communication skills, and role-model appreciation and respect for diversity. The children are multi-national, and the schools produce very academically able but entirely well rounded pupils using the UK and IB curricula.

This ethos of true cooperation and harmony, and a feeling of family, is felt in every Yew Chung school. Teachers are given resources and support to bring out the best in their students, and subjects like Sport, Art and Music are given the emphasis that they deserve to serve the whole child. The East-meets-West ethos is not just seen in words but in actions. Yew Chung’s core values include upholding moral values on the basic tenants of Christian faith, but religion is not taught in schools nor are teachers required to be of any particular religion.

Yew Chung’s successful International School model is expanding. Currently they operate schools in many Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing, Qingdao as well as Hong Kong and the US, with plans to expand further.

What Teachers are Best Suited to Yew Chung International Schools

Yew Chung looks for confident, creative and ambitious teachers. Experience with the UK or IB curriculum is preferred, but not necessarily required. Teachers must be fluent English speakers with teaching qualifications such as a Bachelors of Education or relevant degree + PGCE, and at least 2 years of recent, relevant, successful teaching experience in the subjects and levels needed.

Teachers must be open minded and co-operative in their style, ready to learn from and with their co-teachers, and must be ready to fully embrace Chinese culture. These are not schools for teachers who wish to work in an ‘expatriate bubble’.
