We are looking for a science teacher in a school which offers comprehensive CPD, exciting development opportunities and good promotion prospects for our teachers. 

Twyford Church of England High School is an ofsted ‘outstanding’ school with a thriving sixth form, in which science is a very popular subject. The school offers fantastic opportunities for professional development and you will be joining a very talented and supportive science team comprising 19 teachers, 3 science technicians and 2 trainees. The department has recently expanded and there are now 12 dedicated science laboratories. We offer an enriching and exciting curriculum with robust assessment systems, as well as an inclusive wider learning programme. At both GCSE and A level student numbers are large and outcomes excellent. 

The science curriculum has been designed across the Trust to operate at three levels from year 7 - advanced (designed for students capable of moving towards A level), higher (designed for students aiming for grades 9 to 5 grades at GCSE) and core (for students aiming to achieve a grade 4). Between 60-90 students each year study triple science to GCSE with the remaining 110-40 studying combined.

The successful candidate will have: 

  • A good degree and qualified teacher status. 
  • Ability to teach science to at least KS4 and preferably KS5. 
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the national curriculum. 
  • An understanding of recent curriculum / learning developments. 
  • An understanding of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement. 
  • An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively. 
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement. 
  • Energy and enthusiasm. 
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school.

Twyford CE High School, Acton:

Twyford CE High School was set up by the LDBS in 1981. The school has an excellent reputation and is rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted (May 2012) and SIAMS (April 2017). It has developed specialisms in music and modern foreign languages, as well as a large and highly successful sixth form in which maths, science and computing are the largest areas. Since its inception the school has grown considerably and now admits around 975 students aged 11 to 16, and an additional 500 students to the sixth form.

The Twyford Trust comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing school, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. The Twyford Trust aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting, and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the Trust is the overarching organisation which provides support for all Trust schools. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum which has been devised by staff within the four schools. The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing.
