Join us at our brand new Luxborough Court School and Be the teacher you were born to be.

The positive impact you can have early on to a young person’s life is most likely the reason you got into Education in the first place. Here, that impact will be greater than you could have imagined – this is more than just education, this is life-changing education.

Part of Witherslack Group, we provide outstanding education for young people with a range of complex educational needs. Some may need emotional support to help them achieve their potential. Others may, for instance, function at an incredibly high level but have ADHD, social communication difficulties or autism, and struggle to maintain concentration. Each child’s set of needs requires a unique approach and our teachers are there to deliver that. Channelling individual capabilities into academic success is the goal, as part of a holistic and uniquely attentive educational strategy.

Luxborough Court School is a brand new modern purpose built school that was completed in 2017. It is registered for 150 pupils aged 5 – 19 with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

There are approximately 20 classrooms, comprising a mixture of general teaching rooms for all year groups and more specialised science, food tech and DT classrooms. There is a large sports hall with changing facilities and there is a bespoke 6th form suite.

There are a number of other smaller individual spaces used for therapeutic intervention and bespoke support packages.

The School benefits from extensive outdoor space, including an area for the delivery of horticulture.

There is a large central courtyard garden in the centre of the school and separate secondary and junior playgrounds and a fenced off multi-use games area.

There are good public transport connections with Chigwell Station one mile away, providing London Underground Central Line services to central London and other Essex towns. The road links are good and the site is located adjacent to the M11 although access to it is approximately 2.3 miles south at Woodford Junction 4. The M11 links from Cambridge to London.

Be inspired

We need more than a Science teacher, we need someone who can connect with our pupils first and foremost and develop strong trusting relationships quickly. If you can, then teaching Science to our pupils will be the easy part!

Once you have developed those relationships then you will be able to begin to really impact on each and every pupil you teach. This means you can teach the kind of Science you always wanted to teach to the pupils who really need you the most. Our pupils abilities and needs are diverse, so you have the chance to bring science alive and relate it to each pupil as an individual. All our classes are supported by teaching assistants with a strong pastoral presence as well. You are never alone at our school as you’ll work as part of a collaborative team, not just with other teachers across the school and the wider Witherslack Group but with our in-house psychologists, family liaison officers and therapy professionals. All pulling together to create the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

Be yourself

We’re looking for an Science Teacher with a vision. The kind of person who wants to make a difference and knows the pathway that will allow them to do so. Someone who also wants to be part of the conversation when it comes to group decisions on how we, as a Group, best meet the needs of each child with regard to training, support and annual reviews.

Aware of the standards that Ofsted look out for and always conscious to exceed them, you’ll be the kind of teacher who is never anything but engaged and engaging. What’s more, you’ll be excited by the prospect of our small class sizes of 8 pupils or less, (with at least one Teaching Assistant) and will seize upon this as an opportunity to tailor learning to individuals and build stronger, more insightful teacher/pupil relationships. Empathetic and passionate, you’ll understand that our pupils’ journeys aren’t necessarily linear. If you haven’t worked in SEN before, but are enthusiastic and motivated to make the move, we’ll give you all the additional training and support you require.

Be rewarded

The benefit of doing a role like this is it feels good. Every day brings a sense of hard-won achievement and progress. There are also some outstanding rewards – in fact, our salary and benefits package is one of the best in the sector. It includes:

  • A highly competitive salary
  • Full school holidays
  • Teacher pension scheme or a range of flexible pension options to suit personal circumstances (where applicable)
  • A comprehensive, market-leading induction and ongoing training
  • Extensive Group staff benefits, such as a Medicash Health Plan/Employee Assistance and Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Free lunches
  • Free DBS Enhanced checks for all new employees

We strongly believe that people should have choice and flexibility when it comes to saving for the future. As such we offer membership of the Teachers Pensions Scheme if you are eligible to join. We also offer a flexible alternative option to the Teachers Pension Scheme that allows you to opt out and receive an allowance of 15% of your base salary and free life insurance. If you take this option you are also able to join our Scottish Widows Group Pension Scheme where your employee contributions are matched up to 5%.
