Job overview

Birchwood is a successful 11-18 mixed school with 1400 students on roll. We are very proud of our all-ability school, where students not only leave with strong academic qualifications but also as well–rounded individuals with a sense of responsibility.

We have:

• Engaged and motivated students

• 200 talented and hard-working staff

• Outstanding facilities for students and staff

• A determination to raise standards for all

• A belief in comprehensive values

• A commitment to professional development and staff well-being

The Science Faculty is well led and achieved its best ever GCSE results in 2017 with 75% achieving 2 or more A*-C grades (DfE Top 25th Centile).  A-Level results were equally impressive (DfE Physics Value Added +0.5 Biology +0.3 Chemistry +0.2).  Consequently Sixth Form uptake is strong with good progression onto Russell Group Universities to study Medicine or Science-related degrees

We are therefore looking to appoint a committed and dynamic practitioner who can join an otherwise fully staffed science faculty to deliver inspirational lessons across all aspects of the Science curriculum and support our aim to be a great school.

As a Science teacher you will be committed to delivering high quality learning experiences for all students that will inspire them to achieve the best of their ability.

This role is suitable for an experienced teacher or an NQT, where we offer an early start date of 1 July. There is also the possibility of a TLR for a suitable candidate.

We offer an effective and supportive induction and professional development package, available for all teachers as part of the school's commitment to a holistic learning community.

Closing Date – Friday 21st June 2019

Interviews – w/c 24th June 2019

We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and expect all staff to share this commitment.  The post is subject to an enhanced DBS.

Birchwood is a successful 11-18 mixed  academy with 1435 students on roll. We are very proud of our school, where students not only leave with strong academic qualifications but also as well-rounded individuals with a sense of responsibility and a willingness to contribute to both the economy and society in general. At Birchwood, we are rightly proud of our 'comprehensive' ethos and inclusive philosophy where the academically gifted achieve top grades at A Level and GCSE, going on in record numbers to Russell Group Universities.  Conversely, those students who need more help are encouraged to progress in a caring and supportive learning environment. As a result, all our school leavers go on to further education or a chosen career with no one contributing to the governments 'not in education, employment or training’ (NEET) statistics.

Ofsted concurred when they inspected the school in June 2019 – the inspection report highlights our inclusive and balanced approach towards education, ensuring that children achieve well but are also supported and cared for effectively, as well as being given excellent opportunities in terms of enrichment, leadership development and extra-curricular activities.

As a school we pride ourselves on the high expectations we make of students and staff, prioritising excellence in both lesson preparation and delivery in the classroom. In all, Birchwood is a dynamic and supportive environment in which staff and students work with a clear sense of purpose, community and commitment.
