The Science Department is a small but growing department where teachers value sharing ideas, resources and experiences. Curriculum development is ongoing to reflect the school’s inquiry based philosophy and the science programme is based around innovative school designed units of inquiry which reflect understanding and transfer of knowledge and skills in realistic and meaningful situations. The school is equipped to offer outstanding facilities for all areas of science, as the school currently offers 4 purpose-built labs each containing state of the art equipment and technology, with more input and potential for growth welcomed from future members of the science department.  St Nicholas School was established in 1980 and after 35 years experience, the school opened a second campus among the rolling hills of a satellite city, approximately 30 minutes from São Paulo. The Alphaville campus has a large green area and ample, well-resourced classrooms. The school currently educates over 200 students through Grade 5 and is adding an additional year group each academic year.  The school will open the first year of the middle years programme in  2019-20.  There is a diverse and passionate body of teachers and the student population is made up of a range of nationalities; international-mindedness is promoted and celebrated.

The St. Nicholas community is passionate about learning. We have designed an innovative, balanced and challenging 21st Century learning experience inspired and underpinned by the International Baccalaureate PYP and MYP programmes. St Nicholas believes that today technology is central to learning and we aim to maximise the opportunities for learners to experiment with different information and communication tools. The school provides a balanced and rich transformative education for its diverse body of learners, most of whom are studying in English as an additional language.

We expect that all new members of the teaching community are open to learn and grow and willing to contribute to the collective learning and share and support others. We value our parents and the part they play in each child’s learning. It is expected you contribute to the wider community and to do this, learning Portuguese is essential.
