Quotes from last Ofsted report, Feb 2018:

"Staff morale is high."

"Pupils’ behaviour is good…Pupils come to lessons ready to learn.”

“An atmosphere of mutual trust and respect are strengths of the school.”

Quote from a current SRWA Teacher, September 2017:

“Having worked at SRWA for 3 years it is obvious that this Academy is on a huge upward trajectory. As a teacher here you have amazing opportunities to contribute to whole school CPD and to benefit from listening to the fascinating experiences of your colleagues. The staff are incredibly friendly and there is a real sense of purpose and togetherness in the way we work here. I’m personally delighted to be part of a team really helping to make a difference in the local community.”

The Science department has continued to achieve the positive trend of good results in recent years. Last year 62% of all Year 11 students achieved  A*-C grades in Additional Science, which was 4% above the National Average and 60% achieved A*-C in Core science, which was 12% above the national Average.  We were also very proud of our SEND Students who matched the non-SEND students in terms of progress. Teaching is at least good across all specialist subjects and key stages, with outstanding features.

We have recently been recognised by STEM Ambassadors UK for our commitment to enhancing STEM subjects and are now being established as the coastal hub school for the Institute for Research in Schools, running authentic research projects to further the interest and enjoyment of science. Additional opportunities beyond the taught curriculum include future trips to CERN in Switzerland, as well as many other local and national visits and STEM competitions such as GSK Industrial Cadets, Silver and Gold CREST Awards and Young Science and Engineers to enrich the curriculum.

The Science department is housed in a state of the art building with most classrooms having the NAWIS system (Ceiling Mounted Science Services) enabling more flexible learning opportunities whilst supporting our students wherever possible to take part in engaging and exciting practical elements of lesson. We also have a particularly supportive culture amongst the team and have embedded sharing good practice into planning, with all lesson resources available to all staff centrally and the shared planning of the new GCSE specification that has led to the development of outstanding teaching and learning resources.

The Sir Robert Woodard Academy is a lively, fast-paced, passionate, demanding yet rewarding place to work. If the idea of delivering an extra-curricular session outside your subject area, within the timetable excites rather than scares you; you want to work with a team of people who love what they do and are prepared to go the extra mile in order to achieve results; you want to work near Brighton with all its rich cultural opportunities, this may be the place for you.

The successful candidate will:-
• demonstrate the skills of a good teacher
• be able to interest, encourage and engage students
• provide appropriate levels of challenge so that all students make good progress
• use methods and resources that enable all students to learn effectively
• use assessment information effectively to plan the next steps in students learning
• make effective use of their time
• secure high standards of behaviour from students

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference to the life experiences and achievements of our students.

Early applications are encouraged and we reserve the right to interview and, if necessary, withdraw the advertisement before the closing date of 25 May 2018, should the right candidate be found.  Visits to the Academy are welcomed.

Named for a Royal Navy Rear-Admiral, The Sir Robert Woodard Academy is a co-educational secondary academy first opened in 2009 as a direct replacement for the former Boundstone Community College. The school is located in the village of Sompting, West Sussex, and has around 1400 pupils aged 11-18, making it larger than the average secondary school. The school is sponsored by Woodard Schools, a large group of Anglican primary and secondary schools both state and independent, and is part of the Woodard Academies Trust along with five other academies.

Values and Vision

The Sir Robert Woodard Academy works hard to promote a strong learning environment for its students, as well as foster a sense of community and responsibility. The progress of individual students is carefully considered, being taught in flexible ability-based groups throughout the school. Outside of the classroom, the personal and social development of students is considered of paramount importance, with a wide variety of clubs and sports on offer designed to help pupils grow into responsible and hard-working adults.

Ofsted

“Pupils achieve well in English and GCSE pass rates are above average in sports, the performing arts and work-related subjects. The sixth form is good. Sixth formers are good role models for pupils. An increasing number go on to university. Pupils are well cared for and feel safe. Many behave well, work hard and enjoy their lessons.”
