The Sir Robert Woodard Academy, part of the Woodard family of schools, is a thriving 11–18 Academy serving primarily the students of Lancing, Sompting and West Shoreham.  We are committed to ensuring that every student is known and nurtured and is provided with teaching and learning experiences that allow them to fulfil their potential.

The Academy is currently seeking to appoint another Science Teacher, with energy, enthusiasm and thorough subject knowledge, to join us and the Science department on their exciting journey.  This post would suit individuals who are wholeheartedly committed to raising student attainment in Science.  An additional allowance may be on offer for someone with the right skills and experience, though NQTs are also welcomed.

SRWA teaching staff benefit from the following:-
• a collaborative approach and strong collegial relationships;

• the opportunity to join and/or benefit from Action Research Groups;

• proven student progress;
• excellent student behaviour;
• an extensive CPD programme tailored to skills and experience;

• strong links with Brighton and Sussex Universities;
• an established STEM group including work with RICARDO Engineering, a world leading company  supporting Science at SRWA;

• free use of the Academy’s fitness suite;

• free on site car parking and easy access to local public transport;

• childcare voucher scheme;

• cycle to work scheme

The Science department has continued to achieve the positive trend of good results in recent years. This year 62% of all Year 11 students achieved  A*- C grades in Additional Science, which was 4% above the National Average and 60% achieved A*-C in Core science, which was 12% above the national Average.  We are also very proud of our SEND Students who matched the non-SEND students in terms of progress. Teaching is at least good across all specialist subjects and key stages, with some outstanding features.

We have recently been recognised by STEM Ambassadors UK for our commitment to enhancing STEM subjects and are now a partner school with the Institute for Research in Schools, running authentic research projects to further the interest and enjoyment of science. Additional opportunities beyond the taught curriculum include future trips to CERN in Switzerland, as well as many other local and national visits and STEM competitions such as GSK Industrial Cadets, Silver and Gold CREST Awards and Young Science and Engineers to enrich the curriculum. The academy is also partnered with the world leading company RICARDO Engineering, which locally provides outstanding enrichment and CPD opportunities for our students and staff within the STEM subjects.

The Science department is housed in a state of the art building with most classrooms having the NAWIS system (Ceiling Mounted Science Services) enabling more flexible learning opportunities whilst supporting our students wherever possible to take part in engaging and exciting practical elements of lesson. We also have a particularly supportive culture amongst the team and have embedded sharing good practice into planning, with all lesson resources available to all staff centrally and the shared planning of the new GCSE specification that has led to the development of outstanding teaching and learning resources. All students are provided with learning journeys that can be personalised and enable both students and teachers to effectively track progress in a more effective and time efficient way – overall an exciting time to join the Science team at SRWA.

The Sir Robert Woodard Academy is a lively, fast-paced, passionate, demanding yet rewarding place to work. If the idea of delivering an extra-curricular session outside your subject area, within the timetable excites rather than scares you; you want to work with a team of people who love what they do and are prepared to go the extra mile in order to achieve results; you want to work near Brighton with all its rich cultural opportunities, this may be the place for you.

The successful candidate will:
• demonstrate the skills of a good teacher
• be able to interest, encourage and engage students
• provide appropriate levels of challenge so that all students make good progress
• use methods and resources that enable all students to learn effectively
• use assessment information effectively to plan the next steps in students learning
• make effective use of their time
• secure high standards of behaviour from students
• be able to demonstrate a proven track record of recent and successful class teaching in mixed ability classes of aged 11-18 students (or of successful training for NQTs).

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference to the life experiences and achievements of our students.

Early applications are encouraged and we reserve the right to interview and, if necessary, withdraw the advertisement before the closing date of 30 October 2017, should the right candidate be found.  Visits to the Academy are welcomed.
