Are you an inspirational teacher looking to join a fantastic Science team?
Highlands is an ‘Outstanding’ school (OFSTED 2011 and 2014) at which students consistently outperform national expectations in terms of both attainment and progress. Outstanding outcomes provide our students with the opportunity to continue their studies at prestigious institutions; students at Highlands regularly receive offers from medical schools, Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. We are a Teaching School, which means that the government has recognised the strength we have in terms of teaching and learning, developing teachers and supporting other local schools. We are very popular, with over 800 year 6 parents choosing the school as their first or second preference in 2019. Colleagues joining Highlands are joining one of the most popular and successful schools in north London.
The work we do at Highlands is underpinned by our values: determination, aspiration, respect and equality (DARE).
Our excellent Science Faculty teaches a variety of courses, including separate science and trilogy GCSEs and A level Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. You will be a committed and exciting teacher able to teach up to A-level.
The faculty consists of a team of 16 teachers, including specialists in all three sciences and receives excellent support from 5 technicians and a teaching assistant. The leadership structure includes a second in faculty with 3 heads of subject and 3 heads of key stage.
At GCSE, AQA courses are studied. In 2019 our raw results were higher than the national averages for all major exam boards at grades 9 to 4 including the award of 24 grade 9s.
At A Level, AQA Biology and Chemistry and Edexcel Physics are studied with multiple classes running in all three sciences.
As a Teaching School, the faculty are actively involved in developing trainee teachers.
The faculty has use of 10 labs each with a desk top computer and projector. A new IT room has been installed in the faculty as a dedicated 6th form study area for science students.
We play an active role in the European Erasmus project with students on exchange programmes to countries such as Denmark, Germany and Finland on issues such as radiation and the journey towards the use of nuclear fusion as an energy source. Other extracurricular activities include a year 7 science club and the Enfield Mayor’s science award competition.
This position would be suitable for both experienced colleagues and newly qualified teachers - the school has a well-established support programme for NQTs.
