Science Teacher

We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious Science Teacher who can motivate and inspire pupils cross both Key Stage 3 and 4 to join our forward-thinking Science Department. Experience of teaching Physics would be advantageous but is not essential.  

The successful candidate will have excellent classroom practice, be committed to high standards of learning and student progress with the energy and vision to build on current progress. They will have a proven track record in raising standards of attainment and achievement and have ambitions for themselves and our school.  

This is a permanent, full time appointment to start September 2022.

The Department

The Science Department delivers GCSE AQA Triple and Combined Trilogy Science specifications. Triple Science is offered as an option subject and is currently undertaken by approximately one third of the cohort.  Results for Triple Science are above national figures and Trilogy results have seen consistent improvement over the last five years. Our key focus at GCSE is improving the progress of middle ability students. Timetabled intervention programmes and increased time for consolidation and reflection have resulted in significant improvement in this area.

Strong emphasis is placed on the importance of practical work in engaging students and promoting a deeper understanding of science at both KS3 and KS4. We have recently reviewed and improved our KS3 units of work to better reflect this, with each year group focusing on a specific set of the practical and investigative skills that underpin the ‘Working Scientifically’ component of the KS4 syllabus. 

The School

Penryn College is a lively thriving college with an excellent reputation who cater for boys and girls aged between 11 and 16 years with a current number on roll of 1150 and we pride ourselves on offering the very best for our students.

In 2008 we moved into our £24 million pound new school building, which has a great range of resources, including an information rich environment, state of the art sporting facilities including a 6 badminton court size sports hall, the latest generation astro turf pitch and our own climbing wall.

Our College buildings and 10 acres of grounds are used extensively by the community for adult education courses, sporting activities, performances and fund raising activities. Our unique relationship with surrounding primary schools - known as the "Penryn Partnership" - helps primary children to settle in to the college whilst adjusting to their new environment.

In July 2011 we became an Academy.  We are committed to maintaining all those things that staff, pupils and the community value about Penryn College.
