Job overview

A great opportunity for an aspiring Second in Science to take a leading role in the further development of the science department at an ‘Outstanding’ academy in Peterborough

The academy first opened in September 2013 for year 7 pupils and will now be welcoming its first group of pupils into Key Stage 4 in September 2016. The Academy has quickly grown from strength to strength, setting high standards of educational success for pupils from the outset.

Within the academy, there is a specific focus on how science works (using skills and knowledge in practical settings, problem solving and developing reasoning) in each of the three core disciplines. Pupils are actively encouraged to develop a love of learning to last a lifetime, raising career aspirations and inspiring budding scientists.

As a Second in Science, you will support the Head of Department with organisation of examinations and reporting. You will also be responsible for setting high standards of dress, behaviour and expectations, using data to identify underachieving pupils and implementing strategies to support them, developing teaching and learning to compliment these strategies.

The successful applicant will be able to teach to a good or outstanding level and will have the ability to motivate and enthuse a team of staff and pupils to achieve their best. Committed to high academic standards, they will share the Trust’s ethos that every child can succeed, despite the challenges they may face.

The Academy offers a fantastic setting for training and development. You will have access to an extensive CPD programme and opportunities for further career development through the Academy and the Trust.
