St George’s School Edgbaston is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Science Technician.
You will be involved in supporting teachers in the delivery of science studies to students, therefore detailed knowledge of Health and Safety legislation is essential, as you will be handling hazardous equipment and tools. The technician role is vital to ensuring any practical work delivered is exciting, effective but most of all, safe.
Our most recent ISI inspection (2021) graded the school as ‘Excellent’ in all areas.
We have a busy Science department with 4 labs and 6 teachers to support through the provision of practical equipment covering key stages 3, 4 and 5 and triple science. The successful candidate will work in partnership with the subject teachers and you will be involved with chemistry, biology and physics preparations.
We are seeking to recruit a talented, experienced and hardworking Technician. We are looking for someone who has the appropriate personal characteristics, experience, knowledge and skills in order that they can provide flexible support to pupils in Years 7 to 13.
The successful candidate must have a level 2 qualification in English and Maths and a specialism in Science to A Level.
Duties will include:
• Preparing and clearing away practical lessons as directed by the teaching staff with due regard to relevant health & safety requirements
• Providing practical support in lessons, including demonstrations if required
• Collaborating with the teaching staff to maintain and improve the effectiveness of the practical lessons
• Managing and maintaining subject resources, including materials and apparatus
• Help on school outings or at school events
Term time in line with Birmingham City Council dates (39 weeks p/a)
Hours: 37.5 hours: Monday – Friday: 8.15am – 4.15pm (30 minutes for lunch, unpaid, to be taken during the student lunch break)
