Job overview

Ark Academy

Opportunity to join an ‘Outstanding’ all-through academy specialising in mathematics and citizenship.

Ark Academy is as an all-through school based in state-of-the-art accommodation in Brent, set against the backdrop of the iconic Wembley Stadium. The school opened to reception pupils in September 2008 and then to year 7 in September 2010 when the brand new, all-through, academy was founded and the new buildings were completed. Ark Academy is growing year on year with each new intake of students until it eventually has students from 3 to 18 years, and is looking for dedicated teachers to join its current staff team.

In its first Ofsted inspection the school was rated as ‘Outstanding’:

“Pupils make outstanding progress in their studies. They greatly enjoy coming to school and attendance is high. Pupils behave well and they respond enthusiastically to the growing team of dedicated staff.” (November 2010)

We are now looking to recruit a Science Technician to join the academy. This is an important role to ensure that all science experiments are properly prepared and science materials are maintained to ensure that pupils are receiving high level science instruction. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring effective support for teaching staff in the Science department and will have the opportunity to monitor standards and practices within the classroom, identifying and communicating improvements to working practices to ensure the highest standards are achieved.

It’s an exciting time to join us: our staff are striving to create and maintain our outstanding reputation, and our school is growing year on year – our first cohort of students have just received their first GCSEs in the summer and we have welcomed our first ever Y12 cohort this September, a strong group of students beginning their studies at A level.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have professional laboratory experience
  • have experience working in a school (desirable)
  • be able to form good working relationships with other members of staff

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • become part of a team developing a new ‘Outstanding’ all-through academy
  • join the Ark network and have access to a range of benefits including professional development opportunities, reduced gym membership and large retail discounts

Contract: 36 hours per week, Term time only, 40 weeks per year
Location: Wembley Park, London (two-minute walk from Metropolitan and Jubilee line tube lines)

Ark Academy is committed to safeguarding children; successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. Ark is always happy to receive speculative applications from excellent teachers and support staff.

With 30 periods per week of formal classes (55minutes per lesson) we are able to provide every student with a rich and varied curriculum, supplemented by an extended curriculum including both enrichment sessions and study support..

Ofsted

In their first full inspection of Ark Academy, Ofsted inspectors have rated the academy as an outstanding school with outstanding capacity for sustained further improvement. Ofsted’s main conclusion was that:

“The new school has quickly established high expectations and secured impressive progress in the short period since opening. Pupils make outstanding progress in their studies. They greatly enjoy coming to school and attendance is high. Pupils behave well and they respond enthusiastically to the growing team of dedicated staff. Relationships between adults and pupils are very positive and help to promote above average attainment.”
