Job overview
This is an attractive opportunity for a suitably skilled technician to work in our Natural Sciences department. This is a varied role with good opportunity for professional development. Alongside a range of technical duties there will be opportunities to work alongside students in support of their study assignments.
The technical support will be primarily for the Natural Sciences Department, which offers:
- Chemistry A level
- Biology A level
- Biology GCSE
- BTEC Science
However, work may be required from time to time in other departments (e.g. Geology
The Natural Sciences department has 4 teaching staff and 2 technicians.
You must have relevant laboratory experience either through your studies or in a work environment. A good understanding of safe working practices in a laboratory environment is also essential.
You will work closely with the teachers and other technicians in the area and will help support students in their studies, so you will need good communication and interpersonal skills. A pro-active and flexible approach is essential along with the ability to organise your workload to best meet the needs of the service.
The contract will be on a permanent basis starting as soon as the successful candidate is available. The role is part-time (average of 30 hours per week) and term-time (39 weeks per year) with the normal working pattern to be confirmed.

College Overview
Scarborough Sixth Form College is an open-access College, which provides general education primarily for 16-19 year olds in the area. The majority of our 1000+ students are full-time, and follow Advanced (level 3) courses from which most progress onto Higher Education. The College has developed a very successful vocationally-related provision in a range of BTEC Nationals and we also offer a one-year Level 2 programme (our “Progression Year”) consisting of GCSEs in Maths, English and Science plus a range of BTEC Firsts. Achievement at the College is high, and above national benchmarks, with outstanding positive value-added overall. The College had an Inspection in December 2019 and was confirmed as a Good provider.
The College provides a pleasant environment in which to work, being set in attractive grounds on the edge of town. College campus facilities have been enhanced by almost £5 million investment. Scarborough itself offers an attractive coastline and beaches and is situated on the edge of the North York Moors, within easy reach of the City of York.
