Job overview

Notting Hill & Ealing High School, one of London’s leading independent girls’ day schools, has an exciting opportunity for an inspirational postgraduate scientist to contribute further to a flourishing Science Department, in both its curricular and extra-curricular activities.

We are looking for a postgraduate of a science-related degree (no specific specialism is required), currently conducting research, with a passion for science and with excellent organisational and time management skills. The successful applicant would expand the understanding of science for our students through sharing their research and conducting experiments within school one day per week over two terms.

The position would be ideal for a researching scientist interested in taking part in additional teaching opportunities, wishing to supplement their research funding or even considering a career in education.

Science at NHEHS

Science is valued highly at the school with students frequently going off to top universities for further study such as Natural Sciences at Durham, Medicine at Cambridge and Neuroscience at UCL in recent years. The department fosters a love of science from an early age with a dedicated science teacher in the Junior School. This passion develops as the students progress through their Senior School education and get inspired with innovative clubs and activities such as Exploring Science Club, which include dissection run by the 6th Form Students, and our Science Week, which last year featured Lord Winston as the keynote speaker.

Teaching at NHEHS

“Teaching here is all about being able to have in-depth conversations with students about your subject and helping to enthuse them with the same passion as you have. Teaching at NHEHS is exactly what I imagined teaching would be like when I got my first teaching job; it’s what teaching should be!”

- Head of Department

About Notting Hill and Ealing High School

NHEHS is a leading selective girls’ school which achieves outstanding results within an exceptionally warm and supportive community. We are one of the very first schools founded by the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST).  The school opened in 1873 and was originally located in Norland Square, Notting Hill before moving to its current site in Ealing in the 1930s.

NHEHS has always had an outstanding reputation and been at the forefront of girls’ education. Its exceptional academic standards ensure that today it remains one of the UK’s leading independent girls' day schools.

Our location in Ealing, with its excellent transport links (underground, mainline, bus and road), means that our pupils come from all over West London and beyond.

We are well known for our success in balancing academic achievement against wide and enriching extra-curricular activities and underpinning everything with excellent pastoral care which puts the individual at the heart of everything we do.  The result is girls who are academically successful, well-grounded, confident and independent. They are proud of their school and value kindness and laughter, fun and friendship. This is a place where tolerance and mutual respect are nurtured; where you can be yourself.  With a wide variety of activities and opportunities, and a strong emphasis on charitable giving, everyone can enjoy being part of a vibrant community and express their passion for learning, and for life.
